HOme Depot does not want to do anything after a cub cadet purchase

So Sad HOME DEPOT only wants to sell Cub Cadet, then not help you if something goes wrong with the product. I bought a LTX 1040 less than 3 months ago and have less than 5 hours on the machine. Today the machine inexplicably stopped as I was mowing the lawn. I finally found out thou the manual is not of much help, that the drive belt has come off. A call to Home Depot was a joke, they said I had to call Cub Cadet, the call to Cub Cadet was also a joke, they referred me to an equipment repair outfit nearby. Thou they were not open, my quess if they will charge me to come get the machine and put the belt on. WHY IS IT NOT UNDER WARRENTY? Why is it so difficult to talk to someone from Cub Cadet?

Well, first off, I don't recall seeing a small engine shop inside any Home Depots, so I'm
Not sure what you think they should do for you.

I do know if any product I've ever bought there needs warranty work it has to go to the manufacturer, Home Depot doesn't fix it, I can't see why a mower would be any different.

At any rate, I think you will find that 'Cub Cadet' is nothing more than one of a handful of well-known brands that are today nothing more than a different colored MTD mower. If that's the case it may as well be a Sears Craftsman mower. Check out the MTD website.

Your owners manual probably tells you who made it and also the warranty info.

Best of luck.

From the number of quotes you have my guess is you have nothing better to do and may think you know a little about everything.
Let me tell you this, if I buy a product from a store, I expect them to stand behing the sale, especially if it is a riding lawn mower, Cub Cadet with less than 5 hours use, the 6th time I am mowing the lawn. The drive belt inexplicaby comes off and so I first call Cub Cadet, that is a farce, if you don't believe me, try calling 1 877-282-8684. So then I call the place I bought it, Home Depot in Saratoga Springs, what do they say "we only sell them". etc. what a croch of s______.
But it is a sign of the times.

So Sad

The most Home Depot will do is replace DOA products. Any used product has to go to the manufacturer. AFAIK it's always been like that, they don't fix anything, that's always been the manufacturers job.

How do you know that it is not under warranty? Didn't the machine come with documentation that explained the warranty terms and a warranty claim procedure?

Good quality can still be bought but you need to go to a dealer that sells AND REPAIRS what they sell and be willing to pay for quality. They generally don't like comebacks and they generally do like to keep their reputation. HD doesn't care, they don't have to as long as people keep buying based on price.

One would even think that reply came from HomeDepot!

I do not need sympathy and know how to take care of business on my own.

My guess is that this is a bad forum, full of responders that should not be allowed.

If you only want to hear from people who agree with your point of view then perhaps this is not where you want to be. Dissent is allowed here but members are expected to refrain from personal attacks.

Actually it's "posts" not "quotes" and if you'd clicked on my profile, you'd quickly see I have lots to do.

Thank you however for realizing that I do know a little about just about everything.

However if you had done a little research, and not just on my profile, before you bought that mower you would have realized, a) you bought a MTD mower with a pretty dress on, and b) Home Depot doesn't repair anything they sell, it all goes back to the manufacturer for repair, warranty or otherwise.

"Caveat emptor", Latin for "let the buyer beware". Do your research first, it saves a bunch of headaches later in most cases.

Best of luck.

HOme Depot does not want to do anything after a cub cadet purchase

You will find that none of the Big Box stores will service anything. Likewise, if you go to Lowes and get a low end model John Deere tractor, the same thing will happen. It is not just a Cub Cadet/MTD thing. In many cases, the tractors are shipped in(partially assembled)locally and finish assembly work is done by a local dealer or service contractor. From my experience, these guys don't always set them up correctly, since they are paid very little to do the job, speed is everything. If a local dealer does the install, he is upset that your purchase point was the Box Store rather than his shop. The selling prices are supposed to be the same!

Most manufacturer's warranties don't include getting a flat tire nor a dislodged belt. If it ran 5 hours before the belt flew off, it would seem to suggest that it may not have been assembled incorrectly. If you put it back on again and it repeats the problem, something with the setup appears to be the problem.

If you describe the situation how/when the belt came off, we may be able to suggest what went wrong. Typically, if the belt came off as the PTO is started, the belt may have been too loose. If the belt in question is the one driving the blade spindles, a spring loaded tightener is supposed to maintain the correct tension. Sometimes grass clippings, a small tree branch, etc. lodges in there (packs up around the safety scrouding). I've also had something stuck underneath between one of the blades and the deck sides causing a belt to fly off when you started it up. If you wash the deck down frequently and/or the tightener hadn't been greased it may have seized up. These are just a couple of situations. We may be able to trouble shoot the problem.

I currently own 7 Cub Cadet riders, four of the oldest ones are about 30 years and the newest 3000 series model has about 35 hours on it. I kinda like them!
