Hey Murf, been a long time, hope you are doing well.

On the JD 4310/4410 style machines lead acid batteries are a bit problematic. The battery is directly in front of the radiator and during operation battery gases are drawn through the radiator causing corrosion. The AGM battery solves that problem neatly.

Anyone use an Optima battery in their JD tractor

This may not be very helpful and does not answer your question, but maybe it will help someone.

Mine broke the same way. It breaks when someone grabs it to hoist themselves onto the tractor, instead of the supplied hand holds. In my case I loaned the tractor to a contractor who was doing some work here and he broke it. Apparently it was not locked all the way and a tooth broke off of the mechanism. Since he was paying I had it fixed by Deere. They replaced a few broken parts in the mechanism AND the steering wheel that the mechanic broke when pulling it off. It was about a $1k repair which was nuts.

If I was paying I would have attempted the fix myself.

If you ever loan it out be sure to instruct the borrower to NOT use the steering wheel to pull themselves into the seat.

Unfortunately you aren't the first one to have this happen. Compact NH tractors sort of have a reputation for this.

Others here have reported the same issues, I don't recall if the TC30 was mentioned but the TC33 was. Often the problem arises with the backhoe, which puts more stress on the machine.

Sorry to hear of your troubles but many have sought and not received any relief from NH.

Under the front of the seat, near the floorboard, is there a knob? If so, it is probably the rockshaft "rate of drop" adjustment. If it is cranked closed the rockshaft won't drop. Open it up and see.

The oil filter on top is great. Hopefully they did better than Toyota and any oil that leaks out when the filter is removed doesn't just pour all over the front of the engine. With that one I took a piece of fuel hose and routed the drain so one catch pan could catch drippage from both the pan and filter drains.

Every Crosstrek seems to have those same wheels, are those the only OEM wheels available for it? They are OK but I sort of like spoke wheels (YMMV)

Very sorry to hear this Dennis, dogs are family and it is so hard to lose one. The decision to put him down had to be heartbreaking but it was the right one. It's sad to watch them suffer. The good times will be remembered even as the pain fades.

It's not my favorite but it's OK. Good blue cheese is better than the stuff they serve as most salad dressing. I eat a lot of salads at Wendy's and usually get whatever is low fat.

Our last poodle had a flip side temperature experience. We were scooping ice cream and a scoop fell on the floor. She gobbled it down in one swallow and two seconds later up came soft serve.

We also had a pool with a built in hot tub. She would walk across the floating cover in the hot tub like it was nothing, until one day she walked across a cover that wasn't there. I fished her out before she went down the skimmer! I also used to float on my back in the pool for 30-60 minutes at a shot. She would jump in, swim over, crawl up on my belly and curl up and go to sleep as if I were a giant air mattress.

We sure love our doggies.

Windows is awful. But Linux isn't much better. In the realm of OS technology neither one is state of the art in terms of stability or security.<br>

I don't know much about lawn tractors but will hazard a wild guess. Does your tractor normally stop running when you get out of the seat without the brakes on while it is running? It could be that the tractor has both brake and seat pressure sensors wired in parallel with the ignition circuit. If the seat sensor is not indicating operator presence, when the brakes are released it may not be keeping the ignition circuit engaged. If this is the case you could lift up the seat and jumper across the sensor to test the theory.

Hi Dennis,

I love my little Baja. The biggest problem I've had is that the foam in the seats was breaking down and the seats were killing my back so I replaced them with some Recaros. Highly recommended! I can drive for many hours with no back issues at all, the old seats hurt after 20 minutes.

Other than that no real problems. The tailgate stopped latching reliably and the latch pivot was rusted, after 10 years I'll forgive it. A little wire brush work and it's working fine again. The left window squeaks when lowered, maybe the rubber is getting old just needs cleaning and a does of silicone spray. I do wish it had a stick, just not a big fan of automatics. But, really, no issues. The mileage is a little lower than hoped, 22-23, the newer Subie's do better, but it's still 5mpg higher than my Tacoma was. As long as there is ground clearance it's a little billy goat in the snow with winter tires.

My plan is to keep it until it really dies, there's nothing else in the new car market that interests me. I think Nissan is bringing a mid-size diesel pickup but what passes for "mid-size" these days is about as big as a full size from the 60s and 70s so I'm not interested. I want a compact pickup.

BTW, my wifes 08 Subaru Impreza has been totally trouble free through 70k miles so no complaints there either.

I think it's a myth but the easy way to tell is to look at the sticker on the pump. There are stations here that still sell real gas but the closest is still inconvenient. Have you checked out Pure-gas.org? Maybe you have a station near you that sells the real stuff.

I bought two mid range 1500VA APC UPSs to provide backup for our security system, phone system (KSU based), and two NAS drives. About six months after the warranty expired one of them started beeping continuously. It wasn't the batteries, the UPS died. Six months later the second one died.<br>

Replaced them with two TrippLite 1500VA UPSs. I was really happy with those, they did great until one extended outage when the batteries were drained down. When that happened BOTH UPSs died. New batteries wouldn't revive them, they both failed in the same manner by refusing to turn back on. TrippLite tech support said to just buy new ones. What good is a UPS that dies the first time the batteries are drained?<br>

Replaced ONE of them with a CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD UPS about three months ago. So far, so good, for the price I'd be really happy if they last 5 years.

When our tank was filled about a month ago the price was 80 cents/gallon higher than a year ago.

A shortage would explain that but a shortage doesn't make much sense (to me anyway). There's no shortage of crude oil in the US, driving is down, manufacturing is down, governments are lamenting the loss of gas tax revenue, "green" energy is up, etc, etc. Maybe a couple of refineries were shut down to keep petroleum product prices high.
