JD 4310 flashes 4 short. PTO turns off and stalls tractor when engaging implement. Can prevent stall by turning off pto.

I don't have my flasher decoder ring handy but this sounds like the seat interlock circuit is open when the PTO is engaged.
Are you sitting on the seat when you engage the PTO? IIRC, you can start the PTO when on the seat and then get off of it, but if you try to start it when standing next to the tractor it will stall.
If you are seated, try tilting the seat up and check/clean the connections to the seat sensor. ....

It was a problem under the seat! We cleaned the safety switch (it looked like it may have had some dirt causing it to not make proper contact)and checked the interlock circuit to make sure it was connecting properly. Took it out for a test run and it runs great now! Thank you so much for your help in locating our problem. ....
