So how is everyone doing this summer? Personally? I haven't mowed in a longtime. Only thing growing is certain weeds that can handle the heat and drought. Garden is capute. I haven't worried about the lawn since I live in the country. No sense in water something few people see or care about. Besides, it's too hot to spend time outside anyway.

So post as to how the yard/lawn is looking this summer! Unfortunately, my situation means no tractor time. Course, since diesel has now hit over $3 a gallon, I don't mind the grass not growing.

Aside from all the 'commercial' turf I have to look after, and our own turf farm, and the airport, my own lawn is sort of a bad example.

The ground water is only about 36" below ground level, and the soil is very sandy loam, so the grass rarely ever browns. When it does start to get dry, I have a sprinkler system that pumps pond water onto the lawn.

I have to cut the grass a minimum of every 3 - 4 days in the spring, this time of year I can stretch it out to a week, but it starts looking a little shaggy.

Best of luck. ....

Michigan has had more than normal rain all season. Lawns are green and have needed mowing every week or sooner all season. The record or near record heat for the past few days may slow it down some. We're supposed to cool down tomorrow to the mid 70's. ....

Just south of Lake Michigan (in Indiana) we had a least three rainfalls of 1.5"/more during July.

Under normal conditions, (unless you water), you can put the mower away for the month of July. My lawn was so thick, I actually bagged it so the dog and I weren't bringing the clippings into the house. ....

It has rained 3 times here in the last three months and that was last week, tomatos are gone, pole beans dryed up and gone. I have a soaker hose from the flowing well in the raised bed for the bush beans and the peppers they are doing fine. I dug up three Japanesse red maples and put them in pots just to keep them alive along with 24 other assorted plants. All of these are in the shade and get watered often. The fig, plums, cherrys, and pears, have all dropped their leaves no fruit at all. 70' tall red oaks, white oaks, american hickorys, dogwoods and the like are loosing leaves and my yard looks like fall. I cut the grass (2.5 acres) or as I should say the dirt just to get the leaves up 6 weeks ago even the weeds are catching hell. Like you I am saving on gas and diesel. The heat here is relentless, 90 to 94 but it is that at 0900 until 21:30 please let it rain. ....

Seems pretty normal here in Oregon. Rainfall is a little above average for the year. We had a few days of record high temps a week or two ago but it gets hot a few times every year so that seemed normal to me. Rarely is mean temperature typical anyway, the standard deviation indicates fairly wide variation. ....

We have had more rain than normal here in NY hudson valley. But given that previous years have been dry - this amount of rain is just right. Unfortunately right now we are going through the 2 day hot spell. It was 104 and humid in the parking lot where I work today. More of the same tomorrow - then a "cooling" trend towards 90, 85 Thursday and Friday. ....
