Hi everyone - sent a mail to a guy advertising a 'pink' Kubota 2002 (UK) on Ebay. Strangely he became unregistered & the auction disappeared not long after I wrote to him. I got these replies: It's clearly a scam.

>Hi,
>
>I am very glad that you are interested in my JD.
>The tractor has hand control for gears.
>From the beginning you must know that the item is
>located Czech republic. It's in perfect condition with
>no scratches, damages or any kind of hide defects. The
>item is in FedEx possession and it will be shipped
>through them in 2-3 days depends how far is your
>location.
>
>The price for this item is 1500GBP and for the
>shipping 100 or 200GBP.For that I must know your
>exactly location to calculate the shipping costs.
>I sell this item because I make some business here
>and now I need more money to extend my business.
>
>The payment will be made to a FedEx agent from Czech
>Republic.
>The payment will be hold till you receive and inspect
>your item. After that you give the accept to FedEx to
>release the founds to me.
>Only if you accept this terms and you have cash ready
>for this deal please provide me your personal details
>for the shipping and we can proceed with this deal.
>
>regards
>
>
>Hi, it just so happens I am in the Czech republic next
>week, visiting Prague on business, can you tell me
>where you are located so I can see the tractor-
>thanks.

Hi,

The address where you can view the tractor is Karlova St. 16,Prague but
I
can't wait till you will be here.I have other offerts and if someone
want to
buy it I will sell it.If I don't sell it till you will be here we can
make
the deal.

regards

3 things to note- price is just unreal as is shipping price. He does not know what tractor he is supposed to be selling, his Kubota became a JD. Also the tractor is in fedex posession & then suddenly at the prague address.

I am waiting for the dreaded words Western Union to appear very soon....

Here's a scam where I recieved an e-mail about a tractor I have for sale. Beware of this ploy!!

"Thank you for the reply,i am very sorry for the delay in reply,my wife just gave birth.I love it and will take it.
Payment will be in a cashier's check from my client in the states who i will instruct to issue you a cashier's check of $12000(I was asking $8500 for the tractor).
I know the money is more than the ford price but will need you to do me a favour by wiring the balance to my international shipper who will come for the pick up at your place as soon as payment is made.
To send payment to you, your full name and address with phone number will be need which will be forwarded to my client in the states.
Please make sure all is well and inplace in terms of the paper works.Thank you."

Once I replied that I would do as he asks after the cashiers check had cleared, I never heard from him again. I wondered why he would send me a cashiers check and then have me WIRE money to his shipper. I was told that cashiers checks are the second largest type of fraud.

I used to think cashiers checks were good as gold, but discovered otherwise at my bank a few months ago. When I was in the bank a guy got very angry and loud when he was told a cashiers check he took from a guy who bought his truck had bounced. I don't understand it, but waiting for one to clear is a good thing. Cash is better still. ....

There's an old saying around here, "Cash talks Bull#### walks". Any suspicious folks I've dealt with better have "C Notes" or the conversation is over. As you may gather from this I've been stung on a couple tractor parts deals, so don't even mention a check of any kind, cashiers, personal, or otherwise if you're an unknown. Plenty of good honest folks around here to take care of our needs, so we don't need those kind. Frank. ....

If a cashiers check is drawn legally and endorsed properly, it cannot be returned for any reason. It is as good as cash. EXCEPT, when it's a phoney cashier's check. I'm a banker and you won't believe how good the crooks are at using any normal print program, and copying exactly anybodys cashier's check even to the point that the issuing bank often times can't tell the phony from an original except for the clearing numbers and point of purchase information. Of course if it's phony it will be returned.

The scam of purchasing large ticket items with a CC check for an amount over the purchase price is common place. The crook has no interest in the vehicle...most times doesn't even want it. All he wants is for you to cash the check, assuming your bank will, (which they likely will because they know YOU) and return the extra cash to him. That's all he wants. Because you endorsed the check you are liable when the check comes back. Be very careful of these scams. If you do business with an unkown, insist on cash or have the funds wired to your bank. ....

I've heard it said that a stop payment can be done on a cashier's check just like a personal check.
Was it this board or another that had a member who went through this selling a tractor? Buyer stopped payment on a cashier's check, after taking delivery of the tractor, if I remember correctly.

Yep, scam big time. They are mostly from Lagos, Nigerian but use various addresses. All you have to do is place a for sale item for say a tractor, etc and they start the e mail transaction. They want to send you more than its worth via a "agent" here that owes them money, then forward the remainder to them. Big scam and unfortunately people do get stung. Check this guys site out. He has a vendetta against the Nigerian scammers.
