Anybody Use One Of These
Rear Mount Mower or Brush Hog to mow out over ditches and banks?
How well does it work?
How much weight do I need on the front of a BX1500 to keep the rear mounted implement from tipping the tractor over backwards?

I use my 5 foot rotary cutter to cut over the edge of some downside slopes similar to shallow ditches. If I didn't have top-and-tilt I wouldn't even try it. With TnT I can back up to the bank, tilt the cutter down, and drop it on top of the slope to cut. Slow going and not the ideal tool for the job. ....

*Yep lots of backing up pulling ahead moving over repeating the process over an over again.
But I'm still thinking it might be better than that ole back breakin string trimmer.
Don't know if it's worth 3 to 6 hundred dollars to buy a brush hog that wouldn't be used for anything else just to do this.
What do U All think? ....

To be honest Lbrown59 if you are worried about $400 after buying two of the exact same tractors (bx1500) on top of what you already have (bx23) and a Cub cadet 2500 series. At anytime during these purchases, did you not think of the ditches and banks? if not then why all the machines?

I'm just thinkin why spend 400 for A BH that you have to keep pulling ahead and backing it up if for about the same 400 i could come up with something that I can just drive along side the ditches /banks instead. ....

I have seen a home-built three-point setup somewhere that used a gasoline driven mower on the end of a long arm that articulated up and down, allowing the tractor to stay level. It might have been in that Farm Show paper I subscribe to. I'll look for it...it was a cheap and practical solution. ....

While I look for that home-built version, I found a link that kind of gives you the idea. The Dragon Articulated-Arm Mower at http://www.butlerent.com/ is something similar, but uses a flail mower instead of what is basically a push mower at the end of a boom. Take a look and maybe I'll eventually find the article I'm looking for.

I think it is Swisher that makes a pull behind with own gas engine that will cut some over a ditch. Uses string. Looks sort of like the mobilus links to (which looks good). It has been years since I used a sickle bar cutter but think KAZAK5 could be correct. ....

Holy cow...what a link! Here's the general idea. If you have hyd remotes, you could add hydraulic cylinders to the concept so that you could make adjustments (other than up and down with the three-point lift) on the go.
But it is lightweight, cheap, and easy. ....

Mobilus, good call, I had forgotten all about that thread on the MBN.
BTW, in the tiny wee version of your picture 1 used as an avatar it sure looks like that fellow is doing something unspeakable on your rear tire. ;)
Best of luck. ....
