Thats good! We have China tractors here and they have JD there. Life is good!

Maybe they will invite us to their web site to share info.

I guess I'm being bad... ....

One is one too many. You can almost see where they are going with this,it's dollars and cents.(My opinion)It's just a matter of time, first they cave to home depot's
tactics and undercut all of the long time family owned JD
dealers, now they are building them where people get a few dollars a day and no regulations.
I am all for free enterprise, but on a level field. ....

American Made? Ain't no such animal. Well maybe a few nuts and bolts.

I hear Wal Mart is gonna start hiring Chinese, to go along with all the "Made In China" stuff they sell.

Cheap labor, cheap goods and high profits. That'll make their stock go way up. Get out your Smiley Faces ;) ....

? JD has been manufacturing tractors in other countries for years. I personally don't see anything wrong with JD manufacturing tractors in China for their market and some export. Seems like a better deal than buying the 5000 series from south Korea.
Is it wrong for Ford to manufacture cars in Europe for their market and a few exports or GM to manufacture cars in Germany for their market and some exports?
With a country the size of the US and a billion people China must need some tractors. Personally I would rather have them painted green and adding to the health of JD than blue and the health of Fiat or Orange and the health of Kubota. ....

It may not be wrong, but it is different.Namely the standard of living of the competing worker in Germany or other European countries is on par or better than the U.S. Last report on standard of livings of the world I read, had Sweden #1 and the U.S.#10. I've spent time in Sweden,we have a ways to go.
Also the regulation of enviromental laws and health insurance, safety in manufacturing,to name a few. From what
I've read this is the big draw to China ,Mexico+ India. Profit!
I would buy Japanese, German or Swedish made anytime and do. I know it's almost
impossible, but I try to avoid products made with what I consider slave labor.

I view any report about standard of living that rates socialist countries like Sweden above the U.S. as suspect, and would certainly want to see the ratings criteria of such a study. The confiscatory tax rate of socialist countries makes me think that they are slave countries too. ....

The study I was referring to was a UN study called the well being of nations.Criteria:levels of education, democracy, income, public health.
I am not saying that this is accurate, it was just something I read. I typed in "countries standard of living" and find
there are many ways to judge a countries quality of life.
Based on per capita income the US has been rated #1.(our congress)
My point in mentioning this was only to comment about the
draw of american companies bailing out to low wage countries
in the name of profit. I wonder if any Japanese companies
are moving to China? ....

I believe that John Deere feels they must compete on a world-wide basis. If any of you have seen the 2004 John Deere calendar its theme is John Deere around the world. Based on business examples I have seen such as Black and Decker, who decided not to compete in Japan because they felt strong enough in the US and did not need to compete in Japan. The next thing that happened is the Japanese tool makers invaded the US and the rest is history. I think the lesson learned by Black and Decker has been told in many board rooms around the country. I think John Deere needs to compete on a world wide basis and use the same resources that others might use to compete against our US based companies. ....

I looked at the web site for JDT and it looked like they were producing tractors for the domestic Chinese market. Naturally this could change as they improve.
As for the quality of life vs quanity of things debate. Few of us really calculate the total amount of the tax bill nor do we really compare properly with other countries. Unless you live there for a while you really can not understand the differences.
I'm sorry living on an American military base in other country is not living in another country. It is a bit like going to Gibraltar and claiming to have lived in Spain. ....

Of course johndeeres gotta get in on the china thing. China is the fastest growing economy going and will only get bigger in the future,a jinma with johndeere green,I can see it now! Companys who don't consider china in their future, might have a short future. You can only soup up a tractor so much,it is just a tractor, china might not at the present be ready to produce luxurey cars in mass, but a tractor, well like I said, its just a tractor.Slave labor, nah,a u.s. dollar to most chinese is a good days pay. Richard ....

About jap companies working in china.,yes, big ones.My personel experience, didn't read it,higher end stainless steel items for processing plastic, made in U.S.,shipped to china, paid for by Jap company,in other words, the Jap company is the owner of the plant in china, and is getting some of there equipment made in the U.S.,japan knows that this item is made by a company in the U.S,better then anywheres else, they also know that the price of making the end product is cheapest in china,I think this sort of thing has been going on for years. After a while the chinese figure out how to cut out the middle man,in this case japan, and also figure out how to make their own equipment, cut out the second middle man.,the company in the U.S.,then they sell their product to both countries. So china even at the present may by some seem to be nothing more than cheap slave labor,is looking at the big picture, thats the way japan got started. But china is 100 japans. Richard ....
