Thank you Dennis. It's good to see so many familiar people are still here posting. I will have to admit that I have been beyond remiss in not checking in from time to time.

I have been busier than a 3 legged cat in a sand box covering up you know what. We have begun building our ICF farm home and shop. It has been a long, trying, and expensive process but we are making good progress. It was so difficult to find a solid reliable builder that I finally decided to be my own General Contractor. I am finding that I am actually enjoying the process and learning a heck of a lot along the way.

We finished digging the basement, completed the footers, and are ready to pour the concrete but are waiting for some concrete additives to come in at the concrete plant. I'm glad we are not pouring concrete today as the forecast is calling for a high of 99 degrees with a heat index of 105! I have to carry a towel to mop up the sweat and am drinking almost 2 gallons of water while working the day.

We are well. Just aging a bit but blessed and thankful to be as healthy as we are. Hello to everyone and hope you all are well.

I am not sure if I am understanding what is taking place correctly. Can you please provide a more detailed description of what is happening? It does not sound like the power reverser clutch is slipping.

VERY NICE looking barndo Murf! Nothing like having plenty of square footage for all of your "stuff".

Since my last post on this, in spite of the insanity in wood prices and just in general, we have made good progress on our place. We brought in a forestry mulcher & cleared a path for power lines & about a mile of drive way. It took about 42 triaxle loads of rock to get the base down. We will allow the trucks coming and going to pack it down good before the top coat.

Power lines are in, septic & drain field is in and inspected, bridge is done, and we are waiting for the well driller to get the well in. Holding off doing anymore until the well is done has proven water supply.

Build site has been located and next comes the decision for a walkout basement vs a concrete slab. The wife and I both like the walkout basement.

Duh! Missed the part about forward & rear pedal. According to my TM1895 :

Simultaneous command from Forward and Reverse,

I have had this happen on occasion during operations doing brush hogging in very tall weeds. The thick stems of the weeds can get jammed up in the pedal linkage. This can cause a simultaneous command forward and reverse which will throw this code and the tractor will not move. A quick inspection of the pedal linkages and removing plant debry got me going again.

I did something like that recently. I let my Stihl O-66 set for a few years. It was almost impossible to start. It like to wore a younger man out that tried to impress me with his "chainsaw starting skills". LOL! He got it started but I think he hurt himself doing it. I tried to start it a few days later and after about 45 minutes of pulling on the start rope, I was exhausted. I got few pops out of it but she would not start. I finally broke down and gave her a small wif of ether. Not much, just enough to get it started. I ran about 3 tanks a gas through it and now it starts fine. Letting them sit around with gas in them for long periods of time is asking for trouble. Better to drain the gas out like Murf said or at least start them up periodically and run them to keep them reliable.

I feel your pain and sense of dread Cheymax. About a month ago, I decided to cut some firewood from my pile of paper logs and got out my Stihl O-66. It has specific steps that must be followed for it to start and even then is not the best at being responsive, especially on cold days when it has gotten very cold.

I did my usual start steps and it fired right up for about 10 pops and died. After that, it would not start no matter what I did, including removing the plug to make sure it was good and not soaked.

After doing battle with the pull rope for about an hour, I finally threw in the towel and got a can of ether. I removed the airfilter and gave the girl an EVER so small wif of either. I loath using ether to start anything and only do it when I absolutely have to, especially with diesels. In any case, after giving the old girl a small wif of either, she fired right up on the second pull. At 63 years old, I prefer not to spend an hour pulling on the start rope until I am exhausted and sometimes, discretion is the better part of valor. ;-)

IF you have the cash and don't mind another saw, you might want to consider the Stihl MSA 220 C-B. It is a haus of a saw for an electric/battery powered saw. I think it will cut almost a cord of firewood on a single charge depending upon what kind of firewood you are cutting.

While in the Stihl shop, looking at the battery powered saw, the guy working there saw me looking at the MS 261c and I asked if they had something just a bit bigger like the 261 and he told me they had an MS 441C in the back that a customer ordered and never picked up. I couldn't resist. It has the compression release, so I will give it a try and see how easy it is to start. I haven't tried it yet.

I may still get the MSA 220 C-B to take with me when I am out on the Kubota RTVX 1100 or atv and come across a tree down on a trail.

I have been eye balling the Stihl 220C which I believe is Stihl's biggest electric chain saw. I spent almost an hour wrestling with my Stihl O-66 on a cold day trying to get it started by the book and after I was exhausted I finally bit the bullet and gave her just a tiny wiff of ether (I hate to do this but I couldn't get it start any other way) at she fire right up on the second pull. I am creeping up on 65 years old and I can still start my saws but it sure would be REALLY nice to have a saw that I can take with me in the RTVX in case I come across a downed tree of just a small job requiring the chain saw.

These electric saws are NOT cheap and by the time you buy a second backup battery and the charge, you will easily have $1,000 + spent.

It is not the saw, it is the crappy gasoline. From what I have seen the Stihl 500i is a reliable and fairly easy starting saw but not sure I am ready to spend $1,500. I DID get a deal on a new Stihl MS 441C that new old stock from the dealer. It at least has the compression release that my O-66 does NOT. I haven't started the MS 441C yet. So I have no idea how friendly it starts. I have had my O-66 since March of 1994 and it has been a GREAT saw and still runs just like the day I purchased it. Still has the original carb on it and has never been rebuilt. Just replaced a bar or 2 and a few chains. I have used it mostly for cutting firewood.

Eventually, and with agreement of the CFO/SWMBO I will probably get the Stihl 220C and the BGA86 blower. For now, I think I have the bases cover with a MS 192 T, MS 441 C, and O-66.

Just one last thing. Another possible option for an easy starting saw is the Stihl MS 180 or 181 C-BE that employs a wind up type clock spring on the crankshaft to aid starting. You just pull the rope until the spring is wound up and then release it to start the saw.

It is best not to engage the 4WD unless you actually need it as when it is engaged, there will be a certain amount of drive-train binding depending upon the type of surface you are operating on, especially pavement which is VERY hard on the drive-train.

Hopefully it is just the front drive-shaft coupling teeth are stripped. If it is something else, start limbering up that wallet.

Both of my Hall Effect sensors have gone bad on mine. I replaced the sensor on the bell housing but the other one on the left side of the transmission will have to wait as it sets below the transmission fluid level and oil will pour out when I remove it.

How old is the gas in the fuel tank? Is the gas you put in the fuel tank ethanol formulated gas? If the answer to the above questions is the gas is pretty old and it IS ethanol formulated gas then I would recommend that you drain all of the gas out of the fuel tank and replace it with fresh from the pump NON-ethanol formulated/ethanol FREE gas.

I also recommend treating ANY gas you get (ethanol FREE) with Stabil using the double dose treatment. This will help to preserve the gas you have stored in cans. Ethanol gas will eventually separate into ethanol and gas. The ethanol will absorb water and allow bugs to grow in it. This can cause the symptoms you posted.

Does your HPX have a single barrel or 2 barrel carburetor? I am thinking that you have the 2 barrel carburetor version. If so, there is an anti-backfire solenoid on the carburetor mounted on the bottom of the fuel bowl. I have one on my Kawasaki Pa540 in an F525 that I just got done troubleshooting to hell and back twice. Once because the mower had set for 2 years and the gas went bad causing gummy deposits in the carburetor and on the anti-backfire solenoid. The solenoid is designed cut fuel OFF to the carburetor once the ignition key is turned OFF. If the solenoid is all gummed up with crud from bad gas, it cannot open and allow gas to enter the carburetor. I removed my solenoid, cleaned with some brake cleaner spray and it fired right up. The second time I had to troubleshoot it was when I was testing it and trying to run all of the bad gas out of the tank. I ran over some old weeds and they got caught on the anti-backfire solenoid wire and the mower died on the spot. I thought I ran it out of gas. It would start each of both times if I trickled a little gas down the carburetor throat but would not continue to run. After MUCH swearing and the dictionary of foul language I decided to check the carburetor to see if it was getting gas.......guess what I found????? The anti-backfire solenoid wire had been pulled off the solenoid on the bottom of the carburetor. I hooked it back up and it fired right up.

No but checking it would eliminate the remote possibility that both the suction filter and the drop rate valve are the problem. Sometimes when the hitch has hydraulic problems like this, folks have a tendency to try "adjusting" different things and sometime compound the problem. Not that I am casting any aspersions on the OP's abilities :-) . Someone else could have without his or her knowledge.
