have a 33d that i bought new this summer i have vary little hours on it and it is my first hydro, i have used gear tractors up til now it is getting colder and i was plowing snow and found that the hydrostat was noisy, what noises should i expect in cold weather? i get a high pitched blurpy sound that seems to get less as i use it more, i expect that it is because it is warming up, i am going to call the dealer tomorrow to ask them but thought i would try here too ya know. i might be doing something i am not suposed to do, that wouldn't be the first time!

I have the same sound, new tc33d this summer. 230 hrs. I thought it wa my brakes dragging, then releasing fully when warmed up. Maybe not. let us know what the dealer says. ....

If the hydraulic fluid is too thick from the cold weather it will trap air and draw it through the system.
If it is a real problem you can replace the fluid with a thinner hydrostat fluid or just let it warm up before using it. A magnetic type heater may help by pre-warming the fluid.

went to the dealer and listend to another tc33d cold on the lot, the louder buzzing noises are to be expected when cold but the loud sharp blurpy noise wasn't present, the mechanic told me something i would never had guessed, he bet it was the front drive shaft, the rubber boot to be exact! he said that where the shaft goes into the front end there is a easily over looked grease fitting on that housing and to be sure to graease the shaft slip joint and to spray the rubber boot good, dripping good, where it meets the solid housing. got home today and got the tractor out and it made the noise, sprayed the boot and no more noise couldn't beleive it! greased the fitting too but it was the boot, wd40 strikes again! love the stuff. plenty cold for the test 11 degrees out and no more noise. lets here if it helps you too. ....

DAUSTIN, spray the boot on the front drive shaft with wd40 real good letting it seep in where it meets the front housing grease the fitting on the front housing where the shaft goes in and also the slip joint on the shaft. worked for me! let us know if it works for you ....

I use 3M dry type silicone spray on the rubber of my tractor. It preserves the rubber and leaves a thin layer of silicone which thickens and remains to lubricate and preserve. Works good on auto weather stripping too. ....

I don't think WD-40 is too good for rubber. The solvents dry it out. Silicone is better. ....

The makers of WD-40 also make another excellent product, although not very weel known, it is called TAL-5. This product is safe for rubber leather and plastic, it uses a different type of formulation and solvent which is not detrimental to these products.

What tune does your TC-33D sing anyway? My TC-40D sings I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas.
The noise that you are experiencing is called harmonics. It is amplified by the cold weather keeping the hydraulic oil heavy as it circulates through all that cold steel. That is why it decreases as your HST warms up. Try letting the NH warm up a bit at an RPM above idle for a few minutes before you start your winter duties, that should help.
I have heard of some folks eliminating the problem by substituting synthetic hydraulic oil for the original. I am not going to waste my time or money since I like the tune it’s singing anyway.
