No problem, IF it is certified for diesel use, which the code on the container would indicate.

Synthetics do last longer but should be changed at the normal interval because they get contaminated the same as dino oil. They can be made with a wide viscosity range, like 5/50, so using 10/30 and changing it at the regular time means you're paying double for no great practical benefit. ....

It appears to be certified for diesel use according to the label:

Applications

Mobil 1 10W-30 is recommended for all types of modern vehicles, including high-performance turbo-charged, supercharged gasoline and diesel multi-valve fuel injected engines found in passenger cars, SUVs, light vans and trucks.

Mobil 1 10W-30 is the recommended viscosity grade for a variety of SUV, light van and truck engines, as well as a number of older model passenger cars.
Mobil 1 10W-30 is not recommended for 2-Cycle or aviation engines, unless specifically approved by the manufacturer.

I have been using it for some time now and change it at regular intervals. It starts easily in the winter and runs smooth in the summer. I am in central NY and use the L4300 mainly for brush cutting just under 100 acre's in the summer, and for pushing around snow in the winter, I have been thinking about adding a fel, but am put off by the high price of the units purchased after the fact, I should have done it all at once when I first got the tractor.
I checked on Mobile 1 in the diesel when I first switched, just had an idea that I should recheck, glad I did thanks again for your input!

I don't think I've ever read a synthetic label that didn't indicate somehow that it was ok for diesels, but I'm not sure I'd go with 10W30 (unless it's actually specified in your Kubota manual). You might want to take a look at Shell Rotella T synthetic in 5W40 though. That's my personal (synthetic) choice for diesel engines that have already been broken in on conventional oil.

Thanks Greg,

The manual calls for 10-30, and I've been quite happy with the performance of the motor, and machine in general. I use super UDT for the hydro fluid, and the Mobil 1 in the smoke box, but am open to suggestions and conflicting opinions.

The almost-universal code for diesel-certified is the letter "C" (for compression ignition), so if the certification code includes this letter as the first in a pair, as in CB, CC, CD, CE (the second letter is a sort of date code that I think is up to "G" for the latest engines), it's fine. (This relates mainly to the ability to cope with the ash that diesels produce; you can use gas-engine oil if you change it and the filter more often.)

An older manual that specifies single-weight oils may have preceded the invention of multi-weights. (Single-weights do last a little better than variable viscosity, so are recommended for applications like a diesel generator kept running for weeks or a tractor used for long periods in hot climates.) ....

I do the Mobil 1 10-30 as specified in the manual and super UDT for the hydro. I did not want to mess with the wider viscosity range of the Rotella. On my Honda cars they even have "5-20 only" written on the cap they are so annal about it, so might as well follow instructions ;)

Ag use is not even considered as a major player for a oil company. They build around cars and over the road trucks for their oils.
Cars are 25% for load and RPM, trucks 50%. Where do you run a tractor while mowing or tilling? Full throttle, good engines in tractors with good fluids will exceed 10,000 hours. Running truck engine oil will normally cut the life in half to three quarters.
Not sure what the syntetics will do for sure with the farm equipment or lawn mowers but so far we are seeing extended life of the engines. It is hard for the north country people to see to much benift from syntetics as they only use them about 100 hours a year so the hours in a year will never match the max milage or hours they are designed for. ....

It has been at least two years since I read Castro's Synthetic but they dropped the diesel rating or lowered it. Understand Castro changed the way they made theirs. At least that was claimed by some other companies and did not find where Castro made the case they were wrong. I went to Modil One in my vechiles and until then I had never used synthetic in my tractors but went to Shell's last year. I have been pleased with it so far. kt ....

Well I'm no scientist, but, I believe the syn fluid flows better and faster in cold temps and seems to hold up better over the summer as well. It keeps that slick feeling even at the end of the cutting season. The main reason its in my machine is that I believe in it, it makes me feel good to put in the good stuff, and I guess time will tell if it really makes a difference. these are great machines we all agree, one of the best things I ever did was to buy my Kubota, instead of picking up something old and beaten up, it has allowed me to do great things with my land, and I guess the syn juice is my way of saying thanks! ....

Based upon my memory only it seems Mobile One has backed off of as long oil change recommendation as they once had. Did they not have 25,000 mile recommendation when they came out? A quick look at their web site you will find they had a Mobile One for Diesels. Plus they have mixtures (my term) of their oil giving different oil change recommendation. Seems they have complicated their product line for the gasoline engine again since I last looked. Oh the simple days when there was only one Mobil One or that I knew of. Now I wonder about the oil change of Mobil One last week that shows it needs to be changed at 3,000 miles. Just which Mobile One did they use?

This makes me wonder, is their synthetic the same it was or have they gone the way of Castro is suppose to have? You do notice Casto does not do any comparsion of theirs to anyone else's synthetic. kt ....

Well, yes and no. It helps to take the time to read the labels. The stuff I mentioned a few days ago was regular Mobil 1 ($23/5qt), which I've been using between 10,000 oil/filter changes. But I bought a new jug today - Mobil 1 extended ($27/5qt) - that states right on the container that it's guaranteed for (up to) 15,000 miles.

The General originally stipulated 3000 mile dino oil & filter changes on my Olds, each one costing maybe $12 in my driveway. That's roughly $60 over 15000 miles. Double that if somebody else does it for you. And the price of both dino oil AND labor keeps going up.

Today's 15,000 mile synthetic oil & filter purchase at WalMart came to under $37 with tax. It's a no-brainer for my gasoline engines, but I'm still not sure about using the 15W50 in my diesels.

Greg, I agree about reading the labels. With Mobile One having products that look so much alike and sound so much alike are you sure that Wal Mart oil change people do? I am not. I realize all Wal Mart employees are not the same. First is the car care part owned by Wal Mart or contracted out? If contracted out, who stands behind the work? I really don't know. But I do know I took my vechile there one time and they took my order, drained my oil and had I not been watching, the synthetic oil specified would have not gone in it. They were out.

Had to replace the battery in one of my children's car recently. Her husbands uses Wal Mart, obvious they don't check fluids.

I very much realize all Wal Marts are not the same. Their prices are not the same either. (The manager has a certain amount of flexibility in the price level they use. Depending on the "competion" in that area the prices can be higher or lower than the next Wal Mart.) kt ....
