Hi, I am looking at the three 2000 series models with a 3ph. The specs for the 2520 and 2320 both say they are cat 1. The specs for the 2305 say it is a limited cat 1.
What is the difference in the physical design? are they actually the same except for tractor height off the ground for the 2305 making it 'limited'? thanks to anyone who can help. Scott.

I am taking a guess as I have not seen the tractors, but normally the lower links will not spread wide enough to accomidate all 3 pt cat 1 equipment. ....

The "limited" usually refers to the lift height ability. You are limited since the arms are short. With most "limited" cat 1 hitches, the spread can be Cat 0 spacing (21") or Cat 1 spacing (26"), with cat 1 pin sizes, and can only accomodate 12" moldboard heights as opposed to 16-17" moldboards on full Cat 1 implements. You just can't lift some Cat 1 implements high enough to make them useful. Some sub-compacts and garden tractors can only accomodate Cat 0 spacing.

About all the subcompacts from all the manufacturers are "limited" Cat 1 implements. ....

thanks for the info. What I am asking is if anyone knows why the specs for the 2520 and 2320 both say they are cat 1, while The specs for the 2305 say it is a limited cat 1 from the JD site. These tractors are on the same frame, so, why the difference? Scott.

I've never been able to follow JD model numbers. All three models have slightly different sizes and ratings. The 2305 is 24 HP with 57.1" wheelbase and 35.6" front tread width. The 2320 is also 24HP but with 63" wheelbase and 31.1" front tread width. The 2520 is 26.5 HP with 65.2" wheelbase and 32.7 front tread. The smallest of them all seems to be the 2305 with limited category 1 three point having a 681lb. lift capacity 24" behind the lift arms. The 2320 and 2520 both are rated as category 1 with 1150lb lift capacity at 24" behind lift arms.

Haven't seen the tractors in person but suspect the 2305 is physically a little smaller. ....

The 2305 is the successor to the 2210 (which I have). Size wise, the 2305 is in the “Sub-CUT” class. The 2320 and 2520 are the successors to the small frame 4000-ten series CUTS (i.e. 4110, 4115). I believe the length of the arms are the same, as well as the spacing (26”). The difference is in the lift height. The 2305 will not have the same 3-point lift height as the 2320/2520. Even though regular Cat1 implements will install on the 2305, the Sub-CUT implements, which are shorter in height, are better suited. The 2320/2520 take regular CAT1 implements. ....

thanks for these explanations. I just returned from one of my JD dealers in hope to see these 2XXX tractors myself. Guess what - they dont have a 2520 in stock, but they tell me it is indeed a Cat 1 - unlike the 2305 and larger. I am now waiting to actually see the 2520, as this is emerging to be the one for me. Thanks everyone. know anybody that wants to buy a Kubota BX2200 in excelent condition? Scott. ....

There is lots of advice available on this board for selling your tractor. Watch out for fake cashier's checks. Do not even think about dealing with anyone that says is it ok if they give you a check for more and you give them the difference in cash.

In fact, if it's a cash deal, have them go to the bank with you to have the bank personnel verify the cash is not fake. If it's a cashier's check, ask them to wait 2-3 weeks for the check to clear and be verified as real BEFORE they take possession of the tractor.

Others will have input on this topic as well. ....

A new scam is coming into vogue. A guy agrees to buy your tractor for, say, $10k and sends you a cashiers check. He agrees to wait a few weeks for the check to clear before taking delivery. A day or two after you deposit the check he calls you in a panic to say he's had an emergency and needs to back out. He asks you to send $8k back to him and keep $2k for your trouble. You send him a cashiers check for $8k. A week later your bank tells you that the original cashiers check was a fake. ....

OK, everyone, thanks for the cautions. Some of this sounds like what happens on Craig's List also. So, to conclude, I am off to actually see a 2520 someplace, as this is the one now very interesting to me. And, look for a note in the Kubota forum about my BX2200 going up for sale (it really is agreat machine, just wanting a machine a bit bigger and want to try a JD.....) Scott ....
