The first few 'minor' mod's I did to mine actually improved my mileage.

When it got above about 350hp it went back down again.

I have a JD 4300 4WD with turf tires. I want to purchase a set of chains for this tractor primarily for ability to use a rear blade on my gravel driveway to clear snow and ice and to tow my car to the (hopefully cleared) roadway when its icy.<br>

1) The operator manual says I should not install tire chains on the front tires - why, is this just JD protecting their arse for some reason?<br>
2) What type of chains do you folk use and which should I buy.<br>
3) Can you suggest a vendor (online / phone / mail is all fine).<br>
4) What kind of performance can I expect with turf tires in the snow and ice with or without chains.<br>

Back to the original post, I agree the site is slower. It has never been very fast. I have a T1 fiber connection and a high end laptop.

Time of day could cause some of the delay, but I usually access the site before 7:00am Eastern and its not any better in the morning that the afternoon. Dave

Terry, I read on one of the previous posts of damage to the HST filter and/or fan. I haven't had any problems with mine. In the future I will service my own tractor, at least oil and filter changes.

The main problem I have with the tractor is the lack of an indicator light that the parking brake is set. I have driven off a couple of times with it set, now it won't hold on a slope. I do believe there is an adjustment, but I haven't checked it.

Overall, I have been very pleased with the tractor. I want to get a small box blade and a 10KW PTO driven generator. I don't have a FEL, couldn't justify the added expense at the initial purchase, maybe sometime. Dave

Murf has got a solid point. In the repair industry, the squeeky wheel gets the attention. When I worked for a different manufacturer, I had a service manager go on and on about how bad a problem they were having with a certain model. He was adamant the sky was falling and we needed a fix put out right away. I dug into the details with the actual dealer. One customer had one unique problem. The sky was not falling, the world did not end. There is always someone who will blow things completely out of proportion.

If someone is on their 3rd or 4th transmission, then I'm suspecting owner abuse. You can't tow 30,000 lbs with a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup and expect the transmission to live forever. I used to look at warranty claim suspension parts because "we've got a big problem!" Grab the part, find the impact point where the owner hit something big, and move on to the next part. 90% of the time such people who cry wolf are really the cause and not the vehicle.

paulss, Post Protector I believe, I mentioned them in my earlier post on page one. If I had gone with wood, I would have almost certainly gone with them on whatever building I put up.

Grinder, have a look at Larry's website - moweraxle dot com. He sells a device for storing your mower deck on edge and it's the best thing since introduction of CUT's. He just supplied the first New Holland version for my 60" MMM. The product and service are second to none!

The TLB series is a commercial grade. I have an L series & use it commercially it it does the job very well & is much less expensive. Look at the L3130.

My neighbor plows his drive with an ATV, He needed to put small sheet metal screws in the treads for studs. Without the studs, he had no chance against even a 4" snow. I towed him out with the Kubot, what a great feeling.

His asphalt drive takes a beating from the studs. Doesn't seem worth it.

When I recently bought a backhoe for my 33D my dealer had a Rhino 75 on the lot and made it perfectly clear to me that it was the exact same hoe as the New Holland 757 except for decals. Even the sub frame pieces come with the same part numbers, the only difference being you pay less for the Rhino.

I just had my 50hr service done on my NH. It took me about 5 months to reach 50hrs. The service tech recommended future oil changes at least once a year, preferable in the spring, if the tractor isn't used much during the winter. Dave

I didn't think I was poking fun at you but I apologize if that impression was given. I haven't heard much about CCM tillers but what I have heard is generally positive. I did price them once but the shipping made the cost prohibitive compared to a local purchase.

All the compact diesel tractors sold by Massey Ferguson have been built by Toyosha (up to '91) or Iseki ('91 to current). Toyosha also built the Allis Chalmers and Deutz Allis compacts in the '80's and Iseki built the White compacts. I know that the site www.best-used-tractors.com indicates that Hinomoto built for Massey and AC, but according to an AGCO tractor history book I have this is not correct.

If time hadn't past the B-2150 would be the new B-2630 that was just introduced. They are both about the same horsepower offering three range hydro'swhich is great for all types of yard chores. The middle range will be the most used of all as the upper is like a road gear and low produces tons of torque for pulling stumps or working with a loader. The loader could easily be aquired new after-market and would be far easier to find then a factory original. I would be sure not to exceed the factory specs so you won't break the front end. Your hydraulic power is also reduced from the newer models.

I went from a 30 gal to a 84 gallon bladder pressuretank last week. What a difference. Although I do have 3 girls in the house and a son that spends more time in the shower than them! My well pump used to kick on alot and often (the bladder may of been losing pressure though but regaurdless even years ago the pump would kick on all the time. In my opinion for what the added cost is (which is not much to increase size)for a much larger tank than you need may cost I would recomend a larger tank to anyone. This may not help in your case right now but I thought I would throw it in for fodder to think about.

I kindly thank you all for taking your time to answer. As most of you all said (and I kind of figure or hoped anyway) the light did go off after a few trips. Every time I turn around this year it is something else not going right! This may be a turn for the better with the new year coming. By the way, I have not even had a single strike while fishing for trout in the last 5 days (about par for my course this year)LOL
