Hey guys I have an 83 GMC 1500 with the 305 V-8.
The Guy I bought it from said he put 15-40 through it year round. It gets real cold my way. Any suggestions?

15w-40 is a little heavy. 10w-40 summer, 5w-30 winter I think is what was recomended for these. ....

Sounds a little thick to me. Assuming there is no big problem with oil consumption, I think a 10w-30 would help it start better and get better fuel mileage. ....

Sometimes guys use thicker oil in an attempt to reduce oil consumption, but it does cause increased wear during cold starts. I'd give 5W-30 a try. ....
