Yesterday, I picked up my tractor from the dealer who had it for 10 days. The instructions for service were to preform the 50hr service, sharpen the blades and repair a hydraulic leak.
The hydraulic leak required replacement of a seal, which had to be ordered, and was done under warranty.
The routine service required replacement of one oil filter, two air filters, two hydraulic filters, oil change and lube. The shocker was the cost, $120 for parts and $100 for labor, total of $220.
I complained about the cost and the service tech showed me the cost of the filters, one of them was $22 and another was $24. The service tech said future filter replacements are staggered and I shouldn't have to replace all at the same time.
The next service interval is 150hrs. However, he recommended changing oil and oil filter at least once a year, preferable in the spring and replace the outer air filter.
I plan on keeping this tractor for many years and I feel the initial service is critical, therefore, I felt the dealer was the best place for the service. Other than the cost, I am satisfied with my first service experience. Dave

Dave, I've been wondering about how much the 50 hr service would cost and I'm not surprised based on the number of parts to be replaced. My dealer is about 35 miles away and he offered to pick up and deliver my TZ24DA at no charge for the 50 hr check-up. This was a bonus compared to the what the Green and Orange dealers offereed when negotiating a deal. By the way, our first snowfall last Saturday was almost 14", wet and heavy. The FEL and rear-mounted Buhler 50" snowblower made short work of cleaning the drive. I wouldn't be without the FEL! I was amazed at how I was able to put the bucket down and push snow for more that 50' until it was almost 4' high and the tractor wasn't even working hard. Even backing into the mound with the blower never changed the pitch of the engine. It's like the Energizer "Bunny", just keeps going and going.
I'd be interested hearing about your thoughts on the location of the HST filter and fan and whether you've experienced any problems with damage to them.

Terry, I read on one of the previous posts of damage to the HST filter and/or fan. I haven't had any problems with mine. In the future I will service my own tractor, at least oil and filter changes.
The main problem I have with the tractor is the lack of an indicator light that the parking brake is set. I have driven off a couple of times with it set, now it won't hold on a slope. I do believe there is an adjustment, but I haven't checked it.
Overall, I have been very pleased with the tractor. I want to get a small box blade and a 10KW PTO driven generator. I don't have a FEL, couldn't justify the added expense at the initial purchase, maybe sometime. Dave ....

Dave, I agree that an indicator light for the parking brake would be extremely useful because I've done the same myself. The only warning is the excessive whine of the HST that I've learned to pay attention to.
In the spring I'm going to try inventing a "McGyver" skid plate that will attach to the MMM linkage to protect the both the HST filter and fan. I destroyed the fan when a piece of shrub entangled the drive shaft and removed all but 2 of the blades. I don't think using the tractor for short periods will harm the HST during the winter. I just hope that availability of parts in the future is better than what I experienced with the fan. It took over a month to get it from Japan!
Otherwise, an excellent piece of machinery. ....

I haven't paid much attention to the filter and fan, however, when I get a chance I'll take a close look. Probably won't be until after Christmas.
We have company coming this weekend and the weatherman is forecasting an arctic blast and snow Sunday into Monday. The garage I keep my tractor in isn't heated.
This spring I hope to fabricate a carryall mounted to the 3PH. I don't have an arc welder, this could be a good excuse to purchase one.

I didn't think there where expensive. I would assume most tractor supply stores would carry them.
I have wanted a welder for some time, but just haven't made the move to purchase one. At one time we could use the welders at work. However, due to abuse by some, now no one can use them except the garage personnel. Dave ....
