Would seem mechanic would think of anything I would but clogged air filter or air intake system is one think some miss. Does it heat up real fast of slow over heat after running with heavy load? If slow may be using too high a gear or too low a rpm.

I would take it to local tractor equipment shop with experienced sales people...leaves such as Tractor Supply out most likely and depending they may look at it and recognize it right off.

You need help beyond me but before I ever began to think of replacing a tractor engine certainly would want it tested by mechanic if I could not. My limited engine knowledge is a bad head gasket could be the problem but a bad head or cracked block could also be the issue.

Do you think it may have frozen without antifreeze in it? If so based upon an experience many years back think you are past a head gasket.

The 53 acres, how much of it will you mow and how often. Will it be a lawn type cut or rough cut? If mowing is all you will be doing how much is time valued compared to price of machinary. Bigger machines can mow faster but cost more. What will you be using the front end loader for. Same type info for that: size of load you want to move and how often how much.

As a side note do you live there? If not will you be trailering the tractor or storing it? If trailering it what size load can you haul or if storing is there a size limit to it for the tractor?

Stones or rocks in our ground are very rare and seldom from nature. Also have never used a bit near that large. Tree stumps and roots we have. In working in and around those if bit catches them right it just bascially grinds on them with little affect to machine or bit. Catch them just right where the fluting is screwing the bit into the ground like a large wood screw and you certainly need slower speed than you can imagine. The bit will screw into the ground and not dig a hole.

To me you need a heavy machine and low rpms and no one near that bit when digging.

It is not necessary the fault of previous owner. There can be just bad parts. I had gear in one of my Kubota's to loose a tooth and my cost was $1,500. That was oh 6 or so years back. It past any warranty. Was told probably just a bad gear.

I am assuming this is a diesel, if so have a friend crank it and you spray (WD 40 works great) into the air intake (with filter off) to see if it will fire up and if need be you can keep shooting a quirt into it to keep it running. If that does it depending on the issue it may solve it. Or it will at least let you know if fuel issue or not.

Have used that even on small gas engines.

Does your tractor have a "DRAFT" setting for it's lift? If so be doing what this sounds like. It will lift and lower the tiller depending on it's sensing system.

auerbach, I don't know a wide sampling is the reason I began this thread but stores here have empty places in their displays and will tell you weeks or months on certain models.

Murf totally agree. If people want to pull numbers there have been a couple of I think southern towns that passed requirements ALL citizens were to be armed. Crime dropped in those towns. A criminal is some what like a bully, they want to pick on those they can beat. A properly armed population is hazardous to their career.

A sheriff in my state got attention when he told the women in his area they needed to be trained and armed to protect themselves. What he said was true. This was only a few months back.

Blessed with dry banks normally. Have built up the area where water did stand on them and that made big improvement. Can drive around pond with car now.

Boy Murf that is great looking!

Will take excavator bucket and slope the sides into the pond. Little slow but have the equipment to do that safely. The front end of the pond (rectangle shape) is sloped for loading or unloading a boat and would like to slope the sides similar. Back side is a dam and sloping it is not optional. Still have a few stumps along the very edge of pond but those trees were cut four or five years ago and are mostly rotten. Do not want to disturb the sides below grading level.

Along the line asked for help here oh about 2 or 3 years back about algae in that pond. It has really cleared up as most trees around it have been removed and more sun and less debris in the pond.

You don't mention how low the fluid was but you have check the level again and it did not loose fluid on the trip back to the field right?

If you are using a manual gun think you can tell if the grease is leaving the gun. I will not use pneumatic on such as sealed bearings for that reason. Is the issue you are not sure it is staying on the fitting or the grease is going into it?

If I understood:
Assuming your plow roll the dirt to the right as the vast majority do, if to the left reverse my details.

You will find some varying thoughts on how to plow the field and probably a lot depends on you and the field. Here the standard is to measure to the middle of the field (if a real wide field they broke it into sections) and went from center out. Over time that moves dirt slowly towards the center of the field and does leave the sides getting lower. Also knew a farmer who because he could not count begin on the outside and plowed out but that would moved the dirt away from the center of the field thus creating low area there over time. If you follow with good disking you will fill in the furrow left around the field if you begin in the center.

Now how do you begin. First have sitting on flat ground with plows lifted the right side plow will be higher. Some draw bars for those plows have offset to help get the ride side proper depth when plowing but the plows will not be level side to side on flat group. Front to rear you will be near level with front a little lower. That is where you use the center or third arm to adjust. The side to side you use the right lift arm adjustment to set it.

Get straight in the field. Get you a clear point to plow to and DO NOT LOOK BACK even if you stop and look back you will crook the row. Pride issue there. Lower the plow knowing it will not plow properly this run for the right wheel is sitting on flat ground and not DOWN in furrow as it will be. With the plows you have you will probably turn back into and drop the right wheels in the shallow furrow you just plowed. Make this run. Now you should have a decent furrow to turn back into. This should give you the first run when the plows are really throwing the dirt properly. However you are fixing to hit issue when you reach the other end and turn back as the furrow you need now is missing..what happened? It has been covered by the dirt that just rolled over. You again will plow with the right wheel sitting on top of dirt and not in furrow. Just drop the plows and follow the roll of the dirt for guidance. You wll do fine.

If you have all set properly you will find this smooth plowing. If you have the plows to deep to where the tractor is being pulled and jerked you either need to drop to lower gear of life the plows some.

No idea on your tractor but some have both lift and "DRAFT" lift or settings. If you have draft this is the type of plowing it is used in. It is designed to help keep the plows the same depth as you plow and the ground varies. Some work well and others forget.

Have you checked youtube for video on this? There are some but not sure the detail their is on setting up.

Hit submit without meaning to: word of caution: you have no idea really what is in this ground. There is nothing less fun than running along with bottom plows at a really good speed and hitting an unmovable object. You may learn what steering wheel feels like in ways you don't want to. Look at your plows some are fixed and have no way to reales if such happens,,,not GOOD. If yours are that way and first time in field plow slow and suggest you wear seat belt. Some have built in trips and others have shear bolts. They are there for a real real reason. Will protect you and equipment. If you have trip type you may be able to reset backing tractor up but that may take practice.

Okay long but you will do this a couple of time and set up quicker than readin this.

I gave my brother a set as a gift and he had to change some pins as Greg has pointed out on some equipment. One thing I did not see mentioned is you move the lift point back 2 to 4 inches which can show up with heavy equipment. That was the negative on his tractor with a side mount rotatory cutter. At same time the length can give you more lift height due to the longer lift arms.

Hardwood, tell us about the new hitch system JD is advertising this year. No it would not make me go green..lol
