Looking at a JD2040 with a JD143 loader, 6 1/2 ft bucket. Not sure of the year yet, but I understand they were made from 76 to 82. 4 cylinder diesel (I don't know enough if there was an engine option) "Looks" good anyway as it has a fresh coat of paint.

It at an exclusively used Farm equipment dealer that has almost all older tractors - that seem to be quite expensive.
He is asking $10,900 for this one.

Attached is a photo before the dealer painted it over the winter.

I would have to say pass on this deal. Assuming a 1980 model 2040; the tractor is worth maybe $4,500 - $5,500. Add another $1,000 - $1,200 for the FEL. ....

I did not get the hours - will take a look. Also had a back blade on it (they are cheap?) and says has two buckets - has a 6 1/2 foot one on it now and the photo looks like a slightly smaller one.

The same guy has a Ford 3000 with a front end loader for $5500 (among others). That seems a bit steep also.
Is the "used tractor guide 2004" a good resource for prices? Planning on taking a look at that also. ....

Has about 3000 hours. Ssaw archived ad at www.thetorshed.com at $8900 with 2500 hours and one for $11500. The MachineFinder website for dealer has lots of them w/o loaders at $7900 to $10,000 plus, and one at $9000 and one at $11500 with loaders. Of couse dealer prices are always inflated. This guy is a "dealer also", but just a used tractor dealer - mostl old stuff. This is his newest one. ....
