I've got a single axle trailer (3500# axle) I want to use it to haul a pallet of sod. I figure the weight of the trailer is approx. 800# which would leave 2700# for the sod. Anyone know if this is enough weight carrying capacity, especially if the sod is wet?

Not all trailers have springs that match the weight carrying capacity of the axle. ....

Should be no problem weight wise, however, besure that the load's CG is forward of the trailer's axle. If the CG is to the rear of the axle, the tail will wag the dog and the pucker factor for the driver will increase significantly...the voice of experience speaks. ....

Have a look at the sidewall of the tires on your trailer, every tire must by law state on the sidewall what the maximum load is for that tire.
If they are smaller 12" or 13" tires they may only have a load rating of just over a 1,000 pounds each. IF that's the case you might have a problem.
Best of luck. ....

I thought I read somewhere that a pallet of sod weighs about 4,000 lbs. But then again my CRS could be playing tricks on me. That might be a tad much for that trailer to handle in that case. ....

thanx for the info guys. I knew i'd learn something. Good points on the tire rating and where to load the pallet on the trailer. One thought that occurred to me is to throw some of the sod in the back of the pickup to help reduce the weight on the trailer. We just got a bunch of rain & supposed to get more so i'll wait for a bit before i get the sod. Again, thanx for the help.
