difference TC 30 or TC 29

The TC 30 is an older design that NH brought back in to be a price leader. I think it was the 16XX series frame, but I am not sure. The TC 29 is slightly heavier construction and is the more modern design.

From the discussion here on TP the dealers have found the hydro units to be as reliable as the gear. If you want more use the topic search on hydro. There is a lengthy discussion on the value of gear vs hydro. For manuvering in the trees I would go with the hydro, although companies like Goldini, McCormick and Antonio Carraro, who make orchard tractors are mostly shuttle shifts with syncro trans and multiple ranges. I am not sure the NH will have the speed ranges you need with out the hydro.

The only difference between the TC30 and the TC 29 is the sheet metal and options. Every thing else is the same engine trans and axles. No suspended seat and no electronic cruise control but mechanical is available. Fixed rops and steering.

Oneace NH has 400 lb difference in weight between the tractors on the web, which suprised me. Do you think it is a misprint?

That is right. All that extra paneling and options add up. the fiber glass floor and rear fenders weight almost 150 lbs more that the steel on the the TC30.

Oneace. I was thinking the plastic would be lighter, but I guess if you increase the size and cupholders etc. you end up adding a lot of weight. The cost of style.

My work on composites is always to reduce weight for example Oshgosh Trucks has a glass mixer barrel for the large trucks and it is 2000 lb less than the steel.

Normally that would be the case but take a look at how thin the steel is. I could almost wrap my left over sandwich with it.

If you're looking for benefits, try looking at the TC33D or DA. I've got the D, and like Oneace says, it has the suspended seat (nice!), tilt and telescoping steering wheel, 3-range hydro (plently of power--very reliable and smooth), SuperSteer (a must-have), electro-mechanical cruise control, seat swivels 15 degrees. The grille guard (another must-have) from a TC35 fits nicely even with front suitcase weights (optional), and the folding ROPS. I recently got a NH-branded Firebird fiberglass canopy from Messick's (new advertiser and Oneace's former employer)(thanks for the referral Oneace). Second thought, probbaly not a wise choice if you're doing grove work.

It is certainly a change from the old tractors like Olivers that you could pull the back fenders and plow the field with it.

Like the early seventies bumpers. We restored a Datsun 1200 once, I pulled the fount bumper and it was like tin foil without the braces on it. I was suprised they could chrome metal that thin.

Earthwrks, a little more chrome and some fake fur, we could enter it into "Pimp My Ride" on MTV.

Peters: Don't be hatin', now. (for the record my machine is all stock) Help me out here: Are you the guy that suggested the plywood for a canopy or the mexican dangling balls as a sunscreen? Anywho, I'll ignore the jab for now (iss-all-goood), but on a serious note there is a dealer on e-bay selling "chrome" rims, grille guards, exhausts, and the like for TC's and larger New Hollands (so there!). Turns out the "chrome" isn't even chrome at all but a silver powder coating.

And the fake fur (seat cover), guess what---I did ya one better. Last week I saw a REAL black lambs wool seat cover at the autoparts and couldn't resist. Had to modify it somewhat. Used it today in 93 degree weather and I barely broke a sweat. Swwwweeeet! Gonna make one for the skid steer next. And who knows you might even see 'em selling online.

Oh yeah, speaking of Pimp My Ride----as I mentioned in other posts, I'm (still) cleaning up the Katrina Hurricane mess in Miss. A few weeks ago I was sitting at a traffic light and what comes up beside me but pink-colored semi tractor with a debris hauling trailer with---get this--- those big spinner wheels like the gang bangers have! Those things were HUGE! I busted a gut when I saw them. I didn't see the driver but I've heard that if he smiles at you you'll see his one gold-capped tooth.
