Either keep your tractor in a shed or you can put Vaseline all over the top of the gear shift boot., and never let the water stay in your fluid. It will happen to all tractors if let outside. And the damage it can cause will tear up your hydraulic pump, or in the winter time it can freeze and break your tranny,or rear end.

 water in hydraulic fluid

My 360 Long is bad about getting moisture in the hydraulic fluid. The suction side of the hydraulic oil filter can get a leak on the suction side and let air and moisture enter the filter. There is a rubber hose connecting the suction steel pipe to the oil filter. Had to replace the hose, the last time mine had moisture in the oil. Hope this helps you.

Thank you guys. How is the best way to remove the water? I keep it in a shed but believe the previous owner did not. So if I drain and flush I should have no other problems?

Drain the fluid ,then refill with about 5 gallon of diesel fuel, run about 2 to 3 minutes then drain and refill with new Hydraulic fluid.
It should be clean inside out after this.

Check the boots around the shift levers for it seems they fail on the Long rather quickly. You may find you can turn a bucket upside over them to help. Dealer who sold my brother his Long is a friend of mine and he said you can drain the hyd oil and let it set and it will separate and the oil is fine to use.

Entering through the shift lever is one cause, but condensation is another. And it's pernicious. Any time there's airspace inside a (metal) container that's subjected to repeated heating/cooling cycles (IE: outdoors day/night), you're gonna get condensation inside the container. In this case, the container is the hydraulic sump. I don't doubt the gear oil is equally "wet". Maybe even the fuel.

With fuel, you can fight condensation by always toppng up the tank after use. Not so however with gear oil and hydraulic fluid. Condensation can be minimized by parking an idle tractor under some kind of protection when not in use. But to consider a tarp over part of the tractor a solution - might be stretching things a mite.

One point to the turkey fryer, hyd oil will burn. Maybe easier than you think. To the point I use old hyd oil to burn stumps and such. I have no idea what that flash point is for it but if you have used any kerosene or diesel fuel to flush the system and it is in your hyd oil,,,well just be very careful.

Yes you are right.
I deleted that post.

According to the Allstate commercial:
"Last Thanksgiving, 2 million people tried to deep fry their turkeys, 15 succeeded in setting their houses on fire,"

This would fall into that category. Hot Oil will ignite, 5 gallons would make a spectacular image.
So don't do that.
