 Loader Grate for BX Tractor

Does anyone know of a company that offers a grate for a loader on a BX tractor. I have a BX tractor that I use for loading wood. I cut and split the wood and throw it in my loader and then dump it into my truck. The problem is that on a number of occasions a log has fallen off the back of the loader and came close to landing on the hood of my tractor. It would be nice it I could find a grate that would be approx: 1' x 4' that could bolt on the back of the loader. Anyone know who I could call.

Thanks

While I can't think of any companies in particular, several do offer grill guards.

The problem is with some models they make getting to the rad. and or battery a real PITA.

I have however seen several machines with a guard much like those used to potect the grill mounted instead on the back of the bucket. They are commonly seen on tractors used in nurserys where the guard is also padded to protect and hold tree trunks when carrying root balls and potted shrubs around.

Best of luck.

You might look at Degleman or leon silage blades for a design to be used to build a frame and gaurd to be mounted on the top back of the bucket. There is nothing that I know of that matches what you are looking for that is currently available.

It would probably be faster and cheaper to just go to your local welding & fabricating shop with some dimensions.

Mock-up what you want in cardboard on the bucket, this way you can make sure there's enough clearance for example when the bucket is curled fully back up.

Measure it all up, then have it made up using something like 3" x 3" X 1/4" angle for a base that bolts to your bucket to make it removeable. Then make the vertical guard out of 2" X 1/4" flatbar on say a 12" grid, then infill it with some light steel mesh. Then just paint it to match your favourite flavour of tractor.

Best of luck.

Thanks for all of the info. I am surprised that there is not some kind of shield to protect the tractor hood from being damaged from things falling off the back end of the loader. Whenever you lift the loader up high to dump, you run the risk of things falling over. Maybe I just try to baby the tractor too much! My wife always tells my that the Kubota comes before her.

Don't be surprised there isn't a hood protector, there's a good reason for it.

It keeps the operator honest and on his toes!!!

If things are coming over the back of the bucket and hitting the hood, they are getting WAY to close to the operator.

Never lift the loader than absolutely necesssary and keep an eye on the bucket. It takes a little experience to learn to keep rolling the bucket slightly forward as it goes up to keep it from spilling over backwards when it's up high.

Best of luck.

Try to find a cargo van with a headache cage in it at a salvage yard. These cages are usually made out of a square tube framework with expanded mesh. They are used in delivery / work vans to protect the driver. With a little work any of these could be cut to fit the purpose on FEL's. I have one salvaged from a Ford E-150 work van that I plan to mount on my B6200 w/ B1460 FEL, to do exactly what you want to do, when I am clearing brush, etc.
