Starting dormant Honda GX200 Pressure Washer

I guess it is human to be lazy and then compound it with errors!

I bought a pressure washer probably 7 years ago and used it quite a bit mostly destroying other things I owned. Like spraying too close to my cedar deck, gas grill and other items that were not too happy with the extreme pressure on their surfaces delivered to them by the overzealous operator.

Anyway, I found that I really had very limited need for a pressure washer and have rarely used it all. In fact I only use compressed air on my tractor Smile So the last time I ran it years ago it had unleaded reg gas with fuel stabilizer instead of premium, it has sat there for years until last week.

So last week I decided to see if I could get it going with some new premium gas. Well the old fuel looked very bad medium red, so I tried to syphon out the old gas, but siphon too old. Ahhh heck I'll just take it out back and tilt it over. Big misstake tilted upside down filled head with engine oil ! Yikes.

Now I had to change the oil and pull the starter cord to push out the oil. Plug oil fouled....Changed oil.

Got new plug put in new fuel.

Could not start, reviewed the manual requires throttle on 1/3 setting to start, that's weird most are full throttle with choke.

Anyway finally got her going hurray!! Ran it dry should be good for next year.

Despite my bungling all ended well. I know Ken hates these Honda engines. If you misstep anything they can be problematic.

Dennis

I should add to the list that I had to drain the carburetor bowl as well to get the old fuel out ..... The bowl has two screws on the bottom one to hold the bowl the other on an angle is the drain nut.

Thanks for the reminder, my pressure washer needs to be run dry too so that's a good chore for today.

Yes, I do hate those Honda small engines. As long as the gas is really fresh I can usually get them started with 15-20 pulls. That is still hard starting to me, compared to the other brands of engines I've had. All three of them here behave the same so it seems "normal" but it's a bad "normal". For the carb bowl I just remove the hose and let it drain into a can.

It is only an easy start if you OBEY orders!

Power washers start off being a PIA for starters because you have to connect a hose on mine or you risk damaging the pump.

Second I have to admit that I sometimes start off by forgetting to turn the On/Off switch to On.

After a couple of pulls I have flooded the engine.

Third I have forgotten the throttle cannot be full open only a third.

Fourth I don't have my glasses so I have moved the choke the wrong way or left the fuel off!

Any combination of those means I need to let it sit for couple of hours and try it again.

I have an old wheeled B&S leaf blower I only run once a year, no On/Off, no fuel shut off, just a choke and full throttle, 2 pulls always starts up!

For a long time I thought it was just me so I got in the habit of having the manual handy and following the instructions to the letter when starting the darn things. They still start hard when following the instructions to the letter. Maybe starting fluid is required. Maybe they just don't like cold and/or humid weather. Maybe that are just dooty! No Hondas for me, that is for sure.
