The brackets Art spoke of are near the back and towards the inside of the rear fenders. Just disconnect the lifting rods and re-pin them to the bracket holes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the BX1500 model is on its way out the door (if not now it will be someday). If I want to add an FEL to my tractor after it goes out of production, how long will Kubota continue making/selling the LA181? Should I jump on it now or is it safe to wait awhile? I don't want to get stuck trying to find one on ebay.

I believe you are correct. The BX rear housing is aluminum.

On only 1.25 acres you'd be crazy to go with anything larger than a BX unless you had a very specific ongoing task that required more size or hp. With the right implements a BX1500 or BX1850 would be perfect. BTW, dealers are practically "giving" away BX1500's right now. (makes me sick knowing how much I paid for mine three years ago) For bigger/occasional tasks, just rent whatever you need for a week/weekend. Renting is much more economical than buying more machine than you would use on a regular basis.

I don't know where exactly you are in N.Va, but if you're willing to drive West a few miles there are a number of tractor dealers in the Warrenton and Culpeper areas that will trade on used machines or sell on consignment.

Start with the task. That tells you what implement you'll need. Then ask yourself how big the job is and how fast you want to get it done. A little simple math (or a talk with your dealer) will tell you how big the implement will need to be. From there you can match a tractor to the implement making sure you have a little extra padding on size, weight & HP. Go thru this exercise for all of your anticipated tasks and it should build a picture of the tractor best suited to your needs. Then compare equivalent products across brands and get a feel for the dealer. Lastly, look at price.

There are all kinds of 3PH aerators out there. My preference is the core type. Your machine should be able to handle a 5' unit with no trouble.

For seed bed prep the best tool is a power rake. It's basically a rotating drum with nubs welded to it in a spiral pattern. You may have trouble finding one for your PTO HP though. In the absence of a power rake, I'd use a tiller set to a very shallow depth.

For seeding, the cadillac option is a power overseeder. It uses discs to open a furrow and seeds are dropped in from feeder tubes. The cheap option is to use a broadcast spreader, but then you'll need to topdress and roll in subsequent operations.

I was pulling my mower deck out of winter storage last weekend when much to my dissappointment I discovered a broken weld on one of the front anti-scalp rollers. The break occurred along the vertical interface between the round "stem" (a tube) that holds the roller's pinion shaft and the offset bracket that holds the stem away from the deck. What really got me was that the break occured AT the weld indicating to me a poor quality weld. Now, I'm sure I put undo stress on the roller at some point probably from running into something, but I know I've never really hit anything hard, certainly nothing out of the ordinary. I am bit surprised. I'd have to check to be sure, but the unit is probably out of warranty. The repair is simple and I'd be happy doing it myself, but I was wondering if anyone thought it would be worth while to talk with my dealer about the issue?

I've been searching through old posts looking for information on an acceptable paint match for Kubota Gray, or whatever the color is that Kubota currently uses on their undercarriages. I haven't found quite what I'm looking for yet. Does anyone know of a decent (doesn't have to be perfect) color match? I know I can get an exact match at the dealer but I'm looking for something more convenient and economical.

I look at the economy side of the Kubota L-series. Probably an L3400 or L4400 or similar older model. They are inexpensive, reliable, no frills tractors and should be capable of handling the work you described. If you are concerned about price, don't even bother looking at the Grand-L's or the M-series, and the B-series is simply too small.

The BX1500 shares a lot of parts with other BX models and besides building a quality machine, Kubota stands behind their products. I'll echo Art's comment. Don't worry. If the BX1500 is the right tractor for you, get it! BTW, the package price you were quoted is very good.

I agree. I'm not partial to any particular brand but I happen to use Mobil-1 in my cars and in my tractor. It has never let me down, however, I think the same would be true of any full synthetic. The differences between brands is negligible compared to the difference between synthetic and any regular oil.

BTW, the fact that oil looks "dirty" does not necessarily mean that it needs to be changed. Just the same, oil that looks clean might be at the end of its life. The condition of the oil boils down to the molecular level. Any good filter should remove the macroscopic contaminates. Color is not a reliable indication of the oil's condition.

My temp gauge doesn't move hardly at all in cold weather. I guess I have the same question for Murf. If a direct measurement of the coolant temp yields something too low, what is the best way to get the temp up if there is no good way to "give it a good workout"? Higher RPM's? Partially covering the radiator?

Last time I checked, MSRP on a BX1500 with 54"MMM (no FEL) is about $9700. Obviously no one pays MSRP and I'm sure a dealer has plenty of room to move on price, but less than $6000 for a NEW base tractor? Unless there are factory incentives to the dealer to move product, that seems unbelievablely low to me. But hey, if you can get a price like that more power to ya!

I see the similarities you pointed out but I see more differences. The basic specs don't quite match up either (HP, 3PH cap., hydraulic pump output, etc.)

Besides, I have never heard of a rebadged Kubota in sold N. America. Agco is Massey Ferguson's parent company. If anything it's a rebadged GC2300.

I had a similar problem where the engine would not shut off with the key. There is no manual shutoff on my tractor so I had to stall it by bringing the trottle down as low as possible and putting it in gear with the brake on. I know... not healthy, but it was that or let it run until it ran out of fuel. Later I found that an inline fuse had come loose from its holder. A little electricians tape and a few minutes of futzing with the wiring harness; let's just say that fuse is NOT coming out on it own ever again.
