That part shows as Cub Cadet part # KB-15694-65512 which is interesting because except for the "KB-" that is a Kubota glow plug part number.

Kubota 15694-65512 alternative replacement glow plugs are Denso DG-157 or NGK Y-702R.

Are you sure you need glow plugs though? Pretty unusual that you'd have all 3 go out, especially on that machine. There was a hard start issue on those CC's, it turns out they had a auto glow plug relay that only gave 5 seconds of power regardless of temperature. That's not enough for a cold day.

I was told by a factory CAT tech the whining under load is the pressure relief valve cycling (open / close / open / close) at extremely fast speed against high system pressures when the machine is under heavy load.

It's much the same sound as a FEL makes if you dead head the hydraulics, like holding the joystick in the curl up position after the cylinder is fully retracted so I suspect that is the cause of the noise.

BTW, while I do NOT approve of the method, the tech advised that you can dramatically speed up the heating of the hyd. fluid on cold days by rising the idle a little and holding the hydraulics against the relief valve, like as above using curl up. The constant load and restriction of the valve causes a lot of friction which in turn creates heat.

I'll stick with an leectric preheater.

I recall that there was an issue with some of the early digital instrument clusters, the design was such that water could get into the instrument cluster and let the magic smoke out.

Kubota stepped up to the plate and did a free fix for affected units. Even way beyond warranty end dates. Check with your dealer.

Generally speaking that issue is a safety switch preventing the starter from engaging.

Look at all the basic stuff first, PTO left engaged, clutch and / or brake switch if so equipped, seat switch, etc., etc. also look for any switches that may have gotten accidentally unplugged.

I don't know about that particular model, but most 'modern' diesels start and stop with a key instead of the older push / pull fuel shut-off. That means you need to have power to the fuel shut off relay (it's normally open and requires power to close) in order for the injection pump to produce enough pressure to fire the injectors.

If it's an older model with the old style manual push / pull fuel shut off is it in the correct position?

First off let me correct the "efficient" aspect. From a quantity of fuel burned to horsepower generated point of view the most efficient speed is generally in the 1,300 to 1,500 rpm range, what is generally known as the "sweet spot".<br>

In some cases however, WOT (Wide Open Throttle) is a necessity, PTO driven equipment as an example, WOT is required to achieve PTO speed on the output shaft. Another instance is heavy power draws, things like heavy Box Blade work that just plain requires the extra horsepower.<br>

Horsepower is directly related to fuel burn rates, more power equals more fuel burned. From a common sense point of view why would you want to burn 40 hp worth of fuel when you only need 20 hp worth of work? That's not very efficient at all.<br>

Unfortunately farm implements have never come with very good instructions probably because they're being marketed to people who already know what they are and how to use them.

The advent of the compact utility tractor which is often owned by non-farmers lead to a disconnect in this knowledge.

There are a few tips and tricks and techniques that can make a massive difference in how an implement and or the tractor is on perform. For example one item that I feel every CUT should be equipped with is a hydraulic top link. By lengthening and shortening the upper link you change how that blade engages the ground. In the case of a box blade if you lengthen the upper link the box rotate back onto it's 'heel' in the front cutting edge is raised. If that front blade is raised to just barely above the existing grade as you drive forward any high spots get shaved off in the dirt then spills down into any low areas at the blade clears. The same is true of a rear blade as you angle the blade encounters the ground. If you shorten the upper link the cutting edge gets closer to 90° to the ground surface. This causes the blade to scrape more than dig. If conversely the upper link is lengthened it puts the cutting edge add a shallower angle to the earth which causes it to bite in faster.

Similarly with a rigid upper link and draft control you can adjust with some experimentation the amount of load the box blade creates and thus adjust how much it cuts and how much material gets carried along with it.

We've had good luck freeing up stuck engines over the years by pouring a little diesel into each cylinder and letting it soak for a few days, then trying turning it over by towing it fore & aft with another tractor or a truck.

You can put a LOT more torque on the engine by pulling it.

I must say, “suddenly stopped” is not much information to work with.

If your unit has the 12 speed shuttle shift it could be something as simple as a linkage problem..

If you give us a little bit of detail maybe we can help. Kind of like going to the doctor and saying “it” hurts, expect to hear “what hurts?” as an answer.

I think you have WD-40 confused with another product, there is nothing in WD-40
(see MSDS sheet above) that would affect an O-ring.

Any hydro-static drive unit will have a bypass control valve, basically a 'dump valve' that allows you to push or tow the unit without which the wheels turn the drive motor which then becomes a pump and pressurizes the system.

Everything seeming normal but having no forward or reverse is a classic symptom of that valve being in the bypass position instead of the engaged or operation position.

The simple way to diagnose it is to merely try pushing the mower with the engine off. If it rolls fairly easy the valve is the culprit. If it seems like the brakes are on, keep looking.

The valve is almost always on the transaxle and is a lever that doesn't seem to connect to anything but a spring to hold it one position or another.

If the bore is large enough I would highly recommend you stick a bore scope down the hole and see if the other half is still down there.

If it is and you stick a second one in you could move the broken half into an 'undesirable location' (read "bad place") and cause all sorts of issues and spendy damage.

Sorry, late to the party, again. LOL.

Some of those Asian pumps use seals that don't like cold weather, if you live in a cold climate you can expect a shorter life span.

If there's a decent pump & injector shop around you, ask any ag or heavy equipment shop for recommendations, let them have a look at it. If it's an easy fix it might not be too spendy.

I have a little experience with the GST units, see my picture 6 for example.

I've had 2 units that did this over the years, 1 was stolen before we could sort it out. The second one was a head scratcher.

Finally we *** think *** we solved the problem by taking apart and cleaning every single wire connection the mechanics could find.

Or could simply have just gone away just like it mysteriously showed up in the first place.

BTW, I'm only about 1.5 hrs north of you across Lake Ontario on the north side of the GTA.

If your mower has the access port on top just the extension will be enough block once it butts up to the side of the opening.

The blades on a rough mower like this pivot to prevent damage if they hit something. There is no way to block the blade like on a lawn mower since the fixed portion is usually about 18" away from the case.

I have seen people put a bar through the U joint and block it against the case but that;'s a pretty sketchy way to do it IMHO.

If the goal is to just make it better, the down'n'dirty method is to order in a truck load of fairly fine stuff and just fill in the ruts. The existing material will be pretty well packed and digging into it will just unpack it.

I would recommend something usually called "crusher run" and is sized based on the largest particles. For this kind of work you want "5/8ths minus" which basically means the material will be stones no bigger than 5/8" and mixed with smaller stuff all the way down to course sand.

The other advantage is you can do it with the equipment you already have. Once you have it patched and packed in well you can pick up a rear blade to groom it a little nicer if you wish, but you can do a pretty fair job of it with just back-dragging with the bucket itself.

It's called a 3 PTH spreader.

Don't over load it, do it in many smaller trips, that way you can adjust the spread pattern to better fit the area you're doing.

Again, check with local CO-OP's and farm supply outfits, many of them offer you the use of a spreader (prefilled with the lime) when you buy the product from them.

The first scenario that comes to mind is not a good one. The PTO clutch.

With the tractor turned OFF and the PTO engaged try turning the PTO shaft, a pry bar carefully placed through the u-joint is helpful for this.

Other than gear backlash there should not rotation of the shaft, the PTO drive should lock the driveshaft solid.

If it spins you likely have a problem with the clutch. The scenario you describe is usually because the clutch is so worn there's no 'grip' left, it turns a bit, slowly, because there's a very little friction left, then under load it breaks free and allows the mower to stop.

The top three items for eating a PTO clutch are a snowblower, a rototiller and a mower, in that order.

Wow, this post could go on for a while. As my dear wife likes to say “Honey, you’re Irish, there is NO ‘short version of the story’. LOL.

Based on what’s left of my memory, I must have stumbled across this place not long after you started it Dennis, way back when it was the CTB, the Compact Tractor Board.

Kenny, I too miss the friendship and fellowship of those days, yes, Jeffy is sadly missed, we had several long ‘heart to hearts’ after he got taken to the cleaners after Katrina.

Frank, Chief, Mark, Iowa, I cant even remember his name now, but a fellow Cannuck who served in the US from up the Ottawa valley, good times amongst good friends indeed.

As a youngster on the family farm I learned that there was no such thing as a ‘dumb question’ as long as it was an earnest quest for knowledge. Thankfully, I also learned that even when the person being asked a question was busy, there was ALWAYS time to teach somebody something. Teach a man to fish.......

I’m also a firm advocate (maybe it’s just the thrifty farmer in me) of throwing money at a problem is not always (rarely IMHO) the best approach. I’m happy to share the ‘old way’ of doing things. Just ask.
