I came across a used DK35 with front loader and 500 hours. Is Kioti still in business, wondering if I should stick to John Deere or Kubota. Do not want parts problems ...

My impression is that like Korean cars, Kioti offers more for less, but don't have quite the quality of Japanese alternatives. ....

I tested the Bobcat CT230 just for kicks.

The Bobcat dealer in Devils Lake, ND was very polite, and was eager to deliver the tractor to my home. He let me keep it for a week, allowing me to put it through its paces in real-world activities.

Three things you should know.....

The Kioti (Bobcat was purchased by Doosan, and Doosan makes the Kioti line) engine is nearly impossible to start when the temperature reaches 0 degrees F. If you do manage to get it started, it smokes like all hell for about five full minutes.

The tractor absolutely will not move an inch with a loader full of gravel, when in high gear. I mean it won't budge. Not even a little bit. Shifting down to medium range is somewhat helpful......but the tractor sounds like it's working when just trying to carry a loader full of gravel.

We ran the CT230 side by side with my neighbor's Kubota B3030. We hauled a pile of gravel from my driveway to a location behind my barn. The trip was about 200 feet each way. The Kubota ran circles around the Kioti/Bobcat. The Kubota made two trips in the time it took the Kioti to make a single round trip. This was mainly due to the fact that a lower gear had to be used in the Kioti.

The wiring harnesses on the Kioti are clearly in need of some work. They hang out everywhere. There are hundreds of plugs in the wiring harnesses. Several of those plugs are located on the driver's seat, where we found many problems on day 1. The tractor wouldn't start. It was discovered that one of the plugs had come apart under the seat, while the seat was being blown around in the wind on the trip up to my place.

I purchased a Kubota and have no regrets at all.

Hope this helps.

Joel ....

I own a Kioti DK 35 and its been Great.
My previous tractor was a John Deere 850. Owned it for 15 years.
It was a good reliable machine.
I have owned my Kioti DK 35 for 12+ years (1830 hours).
My Kioti has been excellent and problem free. Every bit as well built, solid and relable as my John Deere was.
I highly recommend a DK 35.
Parts are no problem, I call the dealer and they are mailed to my door within days. ....

Also the wiring harness on my Kioti is nice and clean.
There are no loose dangling wires or connectors any where.
And it has always started instantly for the past 12 years even at -5*F in an unheated barn. ....

Vince,

That is good to hear! I have always thought of Kioti as the Korean Twin of Kubota. Just like Hyundai was the twin of Honda.

I think if Kioti had not gone through all the transformation from Kubota Orange to Bobcat Black and White and back we would probably have a different market today.

But all these changes take their toll and just get the consumer confused about whether buying that brand is a good idea or not. ....

I'm not quite sure what you mean here.
Kioti never changed anything.
They continued to build and supply Kioti tractors just as they always have.
All they did here was supply compact tractors to Bobcat rebranded with the Bobcat name.
No different then Yanmar supplying models to John Deere. (My John Deere 850 was built by Yanmar.)
Shibaura and LS supplying compact tractor models for New Holland. Etc. Etc.
Its been going on with many of the compact tractor lines for years.
The Bobcat versions had different seats, loaders, backhoes, wiring harness, Etc. Etc. than Kioti used.

....
