Hello, my name is Jason and i am new here and look forward to reading and learning, i have searched and cannot find a specific answer to my question...

I am looking to buy a Belarus 250AS for my 3 acres but i am trying to figure out how much one of these tractors weigh, i noticed on tractordata.com it said 4300 lbs to 6620 lbs ( a big difference) . if it weighs more than 5,000lbs i can't haul it with my truck if its less i can so i'm trying to figure this out what is the difference in shipping weight and operating weight ?? can i simply take the weights on the front off and be in this range or what would i need to do ??

First welcome to TP.

Without any more info no way to know the how much your heavy your front weights are but if the tractor does weight say 4,000 or more would guess they are like 75 pounds each.

Shipping weight and operating weight not sure if the wheels are counted in shipping weight or not but think it is shipped with no fluid for one thing and if the difference you have given is betwen shipping and operating weight suspect wheels and rims are not part of shipping weight.

Have any idea where a dealership is for the tractor you are buying or where to find support and parts? Regardless the brand they all need parts sooner or later. ....

I wouldn't pay any premium for the Belarus, I haven't saw a dealer or a Belarus tractor for that matter for a long time. Like was said no matter the brand you will need parts sooner or later and you may be stuck with a parts orphan.
You will pay more to start with for a popular brand but will have a source of parts and something of value come trade in time.

Frank. ....

Bigred, in my part of the world not aware of any dealership for any eastern European brands. Frankly have no idea where such a dealership is but have never had reason to find one since about 15 years back when I considered one and the one I found was about two hours away and for some reason have in my memory they have closed. ....

Those big Russian tractors are still pretty common up here.

I hauled one for a friend a number of years back and couldn't believe how heavy that little tractor was.

I'd be surprised if it was only 6,620 pounds.

That's the reason they're so popular up here, they're used in the woods and for snow removal, weight equals traction.

Best of luck. ....

Yes Kenny, they really are monsters in the weight department.

As an example, a Ford 3600 (43 hp, 2 wd) chore machine weighs 4,400 pounds. The equivalent Belarus 400an (43 hp, 2 wd) weighs 6,600 pounds.

Bear in mind, these things are WWII era technology built by Cold War era Soviet block enterprises and designed to do field work in areas where the soil is extremely poor, rocky, and frozen the best part of 6 months a year.

Parts? Yes, widely available up here, a group of dealers got the distributorship, pooled their resources and filled a warehouse back when the factories were desperate for western cash.

Best of luck. ....

A comment about it being too heavy to haul with your truck.

The maximum weight for a tow-vehicle and for a trailer is conservative, erring on the side of safety (for both drivers and for the makers' lawyers). If conditions are favorable (no hills, slow speed OK, good traction, careful operation) you could easily double the weights posted on the vehicles.

On the other hand, if you get into trouble, the first thing your insurer and law enforcers will do is see if your claim can be denied and charges laid. ....

While I would sort of agree with that statement if we're talking about a properly equipped pickup & trailer combo, the OP says his vehicle can only tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Even a basic 1/2 ton pickup normally has a tow rating of 7,000+ pounds, the mention of only 5,000 has me thinking it's either an SUV of some form or smaller than a 1/2 ton.

Considering a trailer capable of carrying a 6,500 pound tractor will weigh ~2,500 pounds, the total load would now be 9,000 pounds.

I don't think a 9,000 pound load behind either of those could be considered "easy" in any manner of speaking.

Best of luck. ....

The truck is a 1997 Chevy Z71 regular cab, step side, 350 Vortec, 4l60E built for towing, 3.73 gears...

I have had a hard time finding the towing capacity, i can find the GVWR but no capacity i have heard 5K, 6K, 7K, and 10K so i'm not sure to be honest with you.... ....
