Considering having a 12'x 28' high Dutch barn (steel sides & roof) built. Floor joists will be 2x8 on 16" centers with 4 4x6 skids supports. Walls 2 x 4 6'6" high. Front and rear 12 x 8 lofts. 4 x 12 rear work bench. One rear window. Double swinging locking doors. 4 sky lights. Wire package with 4 electric wall sockets, light switch, and 2 light sockets. Shelves running 24' along wall, 4 shelves high with 19 inch spacing. 5' x 6' entrance ramp. Floor joists, skids, and ramp are treated wood.

Could some of the folks here with some building experience give me a reasonable price estimate I will be looking at? Thanks!

This is more of a storage/work shed than a barn. It will have flooring and comes with plyfoil insulation. Some local Mennonites build them and bring them out to your place on a trailer. ....

Bookstores, the internet, and the shelves of lumber stores are full of plans for such structures. And you can get some items pre-made, like roof-joist connectors or trusses. So one issue is how much work you want to do or take responsibility for.

Also largely depends on, as mentioned, what it will sit on. Not sure of your entrance size, but in my experience a storage door can never be too big. ....

I'd never heard the term "Dutch High Barn" till today, so checked google about it. Not many real barns left anymore around here, most been replaced by pole sheds The roof style would be rather simple compared to hip roof, etc.
Like has been said the only way to estimate the cost is to get some plans together and visit your lumber yard. Not a big box store but a real lumber yard where they have real barn crews that will put it up for you. My experiencd with the lumber yard barn crews has been very good, they usally are local guys who want to keep a good reputation in the community and will do their best for you. They will be glad to price one out, especial;ly in these times they are happy to get the work. My only question is on the size, it seems a bit too big for a portable building. You likely have your reasons, zoning maybe that permits portable rather than permanet structures. My experience with portables is that the soil, gravel, whatever the skids sit on gradually settle and things get out of line, doors don't fit right ,etc.
Merry Christmas!! Frank. ....

Franky--I'm skeeered! We agree on something!

Down sout' it's not uncommon to transport prefab "garages" complete with floor. I used to sell them and even move them on PVC pipe as rollers to push them back behind a home once they came of the specialized rollback trailer---using only my 33HP New Holland!. Some hurricane survivors lived in them. Settling wasn't a consideration because that was a given---set anything on swampy ground and it will settle. Normally ground will support 3,000 PSI---where I was it was only 350 PSI! ....

Well EW's back. I was afraid you'd gone back down sout' and been eaten by an allagator.
Now we do agree on most things like the world is round and a septic tank stinks, but just a few others we butt heads on.
Merry Christmas. Maybe santa will bring you a new Silverado so you can park that beat up Dodge. 35 MPG on the hiuway?? I MIGHT consider trading you my Silverado for your Dodge at that mileage figure. Had you been drinkin when you said that?
Snow is xxx deep to a giraffe here today so I'm stuck in the house. ....

As there is some variance in building depending on local cost and market even today I would price it with at least two different companies (sources). But before I bought I would see some they had built. There is a company here who builds and sells them and they use second class materials. So their price should be lower and they are.

You may need to check with your local code people to be sure it is acceptable and you may should check how it being portable is taxed compared to one that is not. Here they differ. ....
