Dear friends,

I just got done going through my John Deere Model 71 flexi-planter. This one is set up for use on a three-point hitch, and plants one row at a time.

I'm still in need of a set of scrapers for the double disc opener. If anyone has a set laying around, I'll gladly pay for them. My local dealer ordered in a set for me, but the inside scrapers were the wrong size and type.

I've just acquired several different planter plates for this planter, which will allow me to plant just about anything, with the exception of potatoes. I'm looking forward to putting it to use this coming Spring. I've used it in the past, only to plant corn. With the additional plates I've now got, along with the second bottom for the smaller seeds, I'll now be able to use it to plant just about anything under the sun.

Here's a picture of it as it sits in my wife's kitchen, ready to be hauled out to the barn as soon as my son returns home from school to help get it out the door.

Joel

Hehehe.

Kthompson,

My wife doesn't allow me to put any such thing in the kitchen. It just so happens that she's not big enough to beat me up, nor strong enough to push the thing out the back door......so she just has to put up with it until I get danged sick and tired of hearing her non-stop complaining.....which gets me motivated right quick-like.

The planter is headed out the door in about an hour. hehehe.

The water bowl belongs to this little fella.

Joel

Joel, the link has to be to a URL (web address) where the picture is posted on the internet, not to a shortcut to your email or computer or something like that.

Try opening an account with Photo Bucket or one of many free web-hosting sites, upload your pictures to that, then link to it.

If you still have a problem, just whistle, or whatever it is we do across the 'net.

Best of luck. ....

Murf, glad I saw your reply, thought it was my computer.

Joel, she does not have to be big enough...all mines has to do is NOT turn on the stove. That is bad enough. No that is cruel! kt

Have you tried posting what you want on ebay? I have seen many planters like yours for sale in your general part of the world. ....

Melonman, missed seeing you here. There is a large melon growner in my area. They do not plant seeds in the field or not what I have seen of them, they set out plants. Right off not sure if they used a tobacco setter or by hand. I think they use tobacco setter as they can set a 10 acre field while I am at work. Setting out plants gets you to market a good bit earlier. If you have access to the older style tobacco setter you can set out plants or plant seeds. Depending on how much you are planting they can be real handy. As far apart as watermelons are planted one person on the setter could drop seed or plants at a good tractor ground speed.

Try the link below to a company that may can help you on the planter plates. Not sure all they have is on their web site. Found them helpful. kt
