I have a JD 4310, less than 300hrs. Today while working with a tiller it just stopped, no forward travel. I was using the cruise control. The little blinky light on the right side panel was flashing. After stopping and starting the engine I could move in reverse but not forward. If I try to go forward first the blinky light comes on and no reverse. No bad tranny sounds in reverse on the way to the shed. Any ideas whats wrong?? JP.

JPwazz;
The little blinky light you mention will blink in a sequence of short and long flashes which are a code that your owners manual will refer to as an indication of the problem. Check the trouble shooting section of your manual. Best of luck, Frank. ....

I'm not sure all the trouble codes are in the owners manual. If you can't find it there post the code and I can look it up in the technical manual. It will be a series of long and/or shot blinks. ....

The light blinks 1 time fast, followed by 3 times slow. There is no diagnostic information in my owners manual to explain this. I hope this helps you to help me. Thanks JP. ....

JP;
Your short and three longs coresponds to Fault code # 10 in the tech manual. To the best of my understanding it indicates either a short curcit or no complet circut to the coils that control the transmission flow supply valves. Perhaps another member of the board more fimilliar with circut testing can take you further toward finding your problem. Best of luck. Frank. ....

Thanks for the prompt reply Frank. Probably the tractor will need a trip to the dealer, It doesnt sound like the kind of problem my screw-drivers and wrenches can fix. I will check back though just in case somebody knows a solution. Thanks, JP. ....

Sometimes the wires under the tractor get snagged on sticks and stuff and the connections loosen or break. It's worth a few minutes to crawl under the tractor and examine all the visible wiring harnesses and connections. Sometimes they're not tied up tight and they're more exposed than necessary. ....

I checked that yesterday after I got back to the shed, but I didnt see anything obviously pulled apart and I hadnt been driving through or working around anything that might have snagged on the underside of the tractor. I will look again though and thanks for the suggestion. Also I forgot to mention that I have an eHydro model if that makes a difference.JP. ....

I FOUND IT!! After an exhautive search I found a wire that had wiggled loose from its connector body underneath the driver platform. I am at a loss as to why it came loose, I certainly wasnt working in conditions to have caused this failure. Perhaps I was not aggressive enough in my initial attempts to identify a loose connection but I also would not have liked to make matters worse by pulling too hard on a sound connection. In any event, thanks to all for you're valuable input on my problem. JP. ....

JP, it's great you found it. Think of the money you saved. Sometimes connections aren't fully snapped in place when new and the vibration just shakes 'em loose. Good job! ....
