Have you actually checked the coolant temperature to make sure that the sender is not bad? Most of the Yanmar temperature senders are set to turn the light on at 110 degrees Celsius. The Yanmar service manuals state that the light will come on at 230 degrees F. You need to check to make sure that you do not have a bad sender which is the most common problem we see.

Steve, Yes there is a tractor bluebook. Most dealers have them. I called a dealer to get a bluebook price the other day. He even had bluebook prices on implements such as loaders and tillers. I think you can buy a bluebook for tractors online somewhere, maybe someone can post this??? I don't have a clue what the price of a NH is but I average about 100 hrs. a year on my JD.

I am looking for a sun shade for my New Holland TC18, something like an umbrella type shade that could be mounted securely. My dealer quoted a $600 price for the factory canopy; my understanding is that the canopy is more of a ROPS / Falling Object guard, not a sun shade. All I need is something to keep the sun off when mowing and tilling. Any ideas on where to find such an item would be most appreciated. Many thanks.

My Kubota B2710 handles a 5' cutter just fine. Being as the 4200 has about the same HP it should work fine with it also.

Sounds like if we combine the two machines we'll have the perfect tractor. A few years ago ABC warehouse (an appliance discount store in my area) sold me a 5000 watt 10 hp self contained unit. I have pressed it into service on several occasions. It runs the entire house without problems (minus the airconditioning). Unless you need to generate a lot of KW a tractor mounted unit does not seem like a good choice to me. Either way you have an extra unit taking up space and with the self contained unit you do not have to put hours on your tractor. I only paid $320 for the unit I have but I suspect the prices have increased considerably with the Y2K thing and all. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck with whatever you decide.

They didn't have the tractor in stock, but once the salesman was convinced I was serious, he located one at another dealer right away. Are there any disadvantages to the Glide Shift Transmission? The Kubota brochure says that it allows

move the shuttle lever to reverse, wouldn't that be an awful shock (to me and the tractor?)
I've read that the PTO on a GST machine stops when the clutch is depressed. Suppose I want to operate an implement like a post hole digger, where the PTO has to run when the tractor is in neutral. No problem, right?

I think you got a decent price. I bargained for a TC29D with the dealer in Taylorville, Il and purchased one for 14,061, added in a Woods 7200 trim mower for 1750. I feel good about the price, we have about 16 hours on the tractor.<br>We love it! It has supersteer, ROPS, the easy/quick connect three point hitch. I can't say enough good about it. I don't know about the dealer service. We'll see when it's due for maintenence. i will probably take it to the dealer until it's off warrenty, then do maint. myself. luck to you. b27

As regards dethatching and aerating--many people indicate aeration may be thought of as another form of dethatching, just takes a litte longer for the thatch to go away. I just inherited an old cub cadet 1200 (1977) and don't know a thing<br>about it. It has a mowing deck under it but I was wondering if there is <br>any way to attach a larger mower behind or in front of it. My local cub <br>dealer merely informed that they don't make anything that you can pull<br>behind a 1200. Can anyone offer some advice?

Well, I went to buy the JD but ended up getting a Kubota. I went to a dealer about 70 miles away that sells Kubota, NH and Case. Their a family owned business that does alot of ag business as well as compact. I test drove the tractor for about 45 minutes and got accustomed to the hydro pedal. It's a 4310 HST, 4wd, R1's, LA681 loader for $21,500. I also bought a Rhino SE 5 shredder with front and rear chains for $800. They will deliver it tomorrow :)<br>--<br>Regards,<br>David

I know everyone is talking about the scuffing problem, today I check the toe in on my tractor, a 4400 JD, there was one inch difference between the rear and front. It was toe in, so I toe it out the same, front and rear, and then drove it in the yard, it seen not to scuff the lawn near as bad as it did in the same turn, I ran beside a spot were it had scuff the lawn before and didnt make a place. You guys may want check your toe in, it may be like mine.

I have not had time to take my 4400 JD tractor back to fix the hdy lock, so I thought I might try and fix my self and I did I took a 6in 3/8 drive extension, the square end and push it on to the shaft of the lock rod and gave it a good pull upwards and bent it about 316, works great now.

Dana, I ran a NH 1710 with R-4s (industrial) on the front and R-3s (turf) on the rear for the entire 11 years I owned the machine without any problems. I used the machine in the same manner as you use yours and I was quite pleased with the traction that the front tires gave me and I even pulled a single bottom plow without difficulty. I suggest you look at Firestones tractor tire page as they have excellent information on different types of tires. Carl.

I can't help you a lot yet. I have a Bobcat that I use for most heavy work. Next year I will be using the 4100 for much larger acreage for tilling and brush control but so far it is mainly grass and weed control. I have been happy with it and don't want anything bigger for my uses. I need the ability to maneuver in close quarters. I considered the NH but the dealer didn't have much to sell and didn't seem too interested plus I worry about who owns the company this week. I went to the Kubota dealer and the salesmen didn't even both to stop chatting on the phone to help me so I left. There was a 4100 on the lot at the JD dealer and I had been reading a lot about them. It was the perfect size for me and had the features I wanted. They are all about the same price and I think the JD is easier to resell if necessary. Otherwise they are all similar from my viewpoint although the two-pedal JD system for the hydro is superior I believe. I don't know what the 790 is? But when I went up in HP the weight increased tremendously (good and bad) and so did the cost. Hope this helps some.
