I can not see getting away without the laptop at this point. I need the input devises when travelling. I am either making corporate presentations or doing process experiments. I carry a light laptop.

I guess you need to consider what the building will be used for over time. Technically a barn is a building for animals, the storage of crops and the storage of farm machinery. Two out of three traditional uses the asphalt would not be acceptable. You would not want asphalt on the floor of the horse barn, pig barn, chicken barn or any other facilty holding live stock. You would not want the feed bin on the asphalt or the hay piled on it either.

Well there is position control and then there is position control..... sort of. On the JD 4110 and above there is a repeatable position control lever that allows you to raise or lower the 3 point arms to the same pre-determined level each time.

On the less expensive tractors, any time you return the lever to the neutral setting it stops the raising/lowering at that point. So you can in effect position a rear blade where you need it but you have to do it by "eye" each time and there is no provision to return to a known setting or make incremental adjustments.

When people rent tools, how do they take care of them? Everyone is different and I would move with caution depending on price because there should be well over three times the life left of the hours used. Another way to look at is it might be like having 2500 or 3000 hours on it. To get 6000 hours on one is just reaching the peak.

Dennis have you looked at the possibility of an instant message area, for members, who's on line? Many times I see several members posting at the same time looking for ideas or just have something to say. Lots of the messages seem like just shooting the breeze.

I can think of a couple of times I've needed info especially on hyd's and could have picked TomG's brain a lot better this way.

I'm not real big on chat rooms but do use Windows Messenger with family. It seems to be a simple way to say Hi and is not to complicated.

The forum would have to be something you do so the format is genaric.

It's time for the 50 hour service on my L3130HST. I have the hydraulic, HST and oil filters but I'm wondering if there are any screens in the lube system that need to be cleaned. The instruction manual doesn't mention any.

Anyone have any tips on this maintinance or is it pretty straightfoward?

Ok. I think of that as a chop saw or a power miter saw.

I have a 10" Delta that just "chops" (no sliding function) and will cut up to 6 inch lumber. I use it more than any other wood cutting tool.

About the only thing I use my old skill saw for anymore is to cut scrap/waste lumber into fire wood.

This tractor was manufactured from 1965 to 1975. Going best case scenario; a 1975 gas motor. The tractor is worth around $2900 to $3500 depending on condition. The loader adds maybe another $500 at most. Worth less if older.

Kubota wheel weights for a BX and very reasonably priced. Check the total costs for both types of ballast before you go with the fluid. I found the wheel weights on a BX very effective.

Ventrac and Steiner are more for professional lawn cutting. Power Trac tries to be a more versitile machine, but has no dealer network so you have to act as your repair center with their help.

Depending where you live you can get them rebuilt. I have one done in Evansville IN one year. Unfortunately I could tell you who as I had the local dealer send it out.

In eastern KY I payed 13,350 for 2210, fel, 62" mower, ballest box, and hood guard. Delivery was free, and any service done on mower they come to pick up and return for free. They say JD won'r pay them mileage, it's just a service they provide.

As with any other implement, I guess it would depend on the size of the brush hog and how high the grass really is. If you fit the tractor with the right equipment, it should do what ever you want it to, within reason.

I have a factory service manual for sale for these tractors. I got it when I purchased my Long Landtrac 360. The manual is NOT for a Landtrac, longtrac, or farmtrac model. It has a revision dated 6/1983. It is in great (like new) condition. I am selling it for less than what Long would want you to by it for. It would probably help alot of people out. I would consider a trade for a Landtrac 360 DTC manual. My manual is for sale on Ebay.

Model U-445 sounds like a good bet. Unfortunately the specs at tractortips doesn't have serial number data.

If you do a search on 'Long' here's a discussion titled 'What's going on...' That has some good information about the company. There's a link to Escort in the discussion and maybe on to UTB, which is the original Romanian Company that made the U-445. The company has been broken up, bought-out and consolidated more times than 'Liberals' have reinvented themselves. A Netscape web search will find some Long Agribusiness dealers and it might be good to see what sort of support is available for the tractor and maybe also some information that can ID it for certain.
