True, that's why I said that this information came from the product literature and, more importantly, why I would be on the conservative side of what the manufacturer has written. The core of my answer is that you need to determine what tasks need to be done first. From that information, you can determine what size tractor is needed. Also, you ought to be able to take the tractor for a test-drive, and not just in the dealer's lot. The dealer I've spoken with will deliver a unit to my home for me to use. This is probably the best way of test-driving; use the tractor under the circumstances that it would be used if you bought it.

Yup. My TC25D does the same thing. Mostly in high gear, but sometimes in the others. I know you're not supposed to work them hard till they're broke in, but it's so hard to resist. Everything is so much easier then with the 9N, or my neighbors Massey.

We're looking to buy a used AC 5040 and Deere 616 rotary cutter. Tractor's got a flat right rear tire and dead battery that we'd have to replace ourselves. Any thoughts on what's a fair price for each piece?<P><br>Thanks.<P><br>--Miriam

I really don't like your question because in my oppion they are not cteated equal.<br>However, even though I bought Kubota because for my use it is a much better tractor, I think history supports John Deere for part availablity. I can still by parts for a J.D. Model B constructed 50 years ago.<br>Service and dealer support is not a call you can make on a large scale you need to feel out the local market and hope it is the same 5 years from now when you really need servive and dealer support. For me it is a complete wash since my dealer sells both Kubota and John Deere.<br>You should get the machine that best fits your needs from a good dealer. For me because I wanted a hydro trans. that ment Kubota hands down. If I had wanted a manaul gear transmision (not an automatic gear- a.k.a. Glideshihft) I probably would have bought a J.D. 4300.<br>An interseting note the people how worked at the dealership seems evenly split between orange and green.<br>Resale value also varies by region. Around here both J.D. and Kubota have very high resale values, go 3 hours north the edge goes to J.D., go 3 hour south the edge goes Kubota. New Holland/Ford is third in all those areas.

the kubota L4310GST is an excellent choice. remember one thing if you buy too<br>small its always a problem. i am going thru the same questions you are.<br>kubota is the only maker that offers a compact with 37.5 hp at the pto, enough<br>for a small baler.i have researched this question for 2 years. my choice may <br>not be the cheapest choice but it is the safest. hope my views hlep your<br>decision a little<br>

I've done the 5 gal can routine, and hand pumped from 30 and 55 gal drums, the best so far is the 500 gal drum mounted on a stand, a twsit on pre filter and 1 inch hose with a regular fuel shut off nozzle like the ones at the gas station. The CO-OP fills me up and gives me a 3 cent per gal discount to boot. The cost of my system is less than a 125.00 from a farm auction, less fuel of course. I'm fueling 3 tractors, and a gen set, so this is great for me. If you only have 1 tractor, this may be over kill, a 55 or 100 gal drum could be set up this way, but I would stress putting a pre fuel filter on the drum. Your CO-OP may not respond to your location to fill your drum for this amount of fuel, so your back to hauling yourself. Hmmm.... Maybe an additional fuel tank in the back of your pick up woud be better.

We're buying about 8 acres (2 acres mowing) in lower NY state. The current owner wanted to sell a used compact tractor. I wanted to buy it. The dealer found enough wrong that I didn't accept the offered unit. <br>This site is GREAT for a tractor owner wannabe like me. I've a lot to learn and there's a lot here. I'm learning about makes/models/attachments etc.<br>One major question: isn't there a common reference site with specs on the most popular compact tractors of recent years? I want to scan paper and online ads to guage prices; getting ready to buy something for snow removal this winter. Where can I look up the HP, drive wheels, weight, pump capacity, etc., on units I see advertised? Do I need to buy a price/feature book on used tractors, or is it online SOMEWHERE?!.........tia, Rich S.

Richard, this does have a Fully Synchronized Shuttle Shift transmission with 8 foward and 8 reverse dual range, but what is confusing is it's suppose to be a 4WD Hydrostatic and not a gear drive???? Sticker price was 23931.00 with a cash price of 21500.00, the tractor itself is priced at 18854.00. It is a 4 cylinder too and not a 3 like the rest of the models.

My apologies. I may have had some (or all) of the responsibility for passing on that information. That is what my dealer told me when I bought my collar shift 4200. Three days later he got to prove it and picked up the collar shift and put the hydro on order. I have since found out that he/I was wrong and it only applies to garden stuff. My dealer however still adheres to that policy whether it's a compact tractor or not and, for what it's worth, he has given me the best price I've seen on this board since last fall. But, again, sorry for the misleading information.

I just bought one last month after first trying out smaller tractors such as JD4400. The frame and wheel/tire size of the 4600 is larger than the 4200 thru 4400 models which is quite noticable when working in rough terrain or when using a backhoe or loader. Bigger is better. It takes much less effort to accomplish tasks with the larger tractor and believe me unless you have lots of spare time on your hands it's worth it! I paid around $28,000 for the 4600 w/R4 tires, 460 loader, 48 backhoe, retract ROPS, rear work light. As far as the 4600 versus other brands, I prefer the JD and have a dealer that's only a mile away. <br>Hope this helps.
