I have received two estimates for clearing a small (1 acre) area for house and barn. First came in at sixteen thousand, that included stumping the area, but not hauling, and digging a 20 by 40 foot leach field for a septic and a 30 by 33 foot area for a crawl space. Said it would take two days. When I recovered, I contacted a second company, they wanted three grand to stump an area about 150 by 160 feet. No digging a septic and no crawl space. They too were going to be leaving the stumps behind. Eight grand a day for digging a hole and stumping seemed a little high, and three grand to dig up about forty, eight inch stumps wasn't much better. Of course, I'm in no big hurry, so if it took me three months to do the work myself it isn't a problem. My thinking is that for what it is going to cost me to clear a few acres I can pay for a tractor or skid steer. I know the

I looked at a JD 955 about a month ago in Richmond Va. and it had a 420 or 430 loader (new models). I question the salesmrn and he said JD makes a kit to adapt the new model loader to the 955. Check it out.

I have been told that the cat 1 3pt on the smaller mitsu tractors is adjustable to operate cat 0 3pt implements by inverting the lift arms. I have not tried this yet.<br>Another thing I have found out that seems kinda odd is rotating the rear tires to change the overall width of the tractor from 38in to 35in?? I was able to fit into a small gate doing this.<br>Ian

I have a the JD collector on my 755 (20 hp). It works well - especially in the fall for picking up leaves. It is loud and I wish I had a pto driven unit. However, there are times when I am not sure that there would be enough hp to keep everything running efficiently particularly during heavy mowing or leaf pickup. Do be careful not to bang the thing into obstacles while you are making turns. You will easily damage the object you hit such as scraping the bark off of a tree or knock the unit out of alignment.<br>As far as the tires are concerned, if you have 4WD the turf tires will give you all of the traction you need - that's what I have and I do plenty of loader work in dirt and snow with no regrets.

The Kubota manual says not to fill the front tires because of increased shock loads to the drive train. I can't see why any other brand would be different.

4100 has a problem with mounting backhoes.<br>The 4 whl drive in a compact gives you the extra bite you need to approach a size <br>larger 2 whl drive tractor. If you are cutting grass take it out of 4 wheel or <br>look for a bi-speed option. the reason the grass gets torn up is the slip of the <br>front wheels in a sharp turn. Bi speed allows them to turn better without the scuffing.<br>For loader operation I swear by hydro. Guess I'm getting too old for shifting.<br>JD and Kubota are both fine tractors. Pick the brand by the responsiveness of<br>the dealer and his willingness to support you in the out years. That's worth a <br>whole lot more than the color of the tractor.

I live in eastern Nebraska also. I use a combination of the loader and a <br>rear blade to move the snow. The loader is rarely needed since we don't get<br>those major storms too often. The majority of the time, the rear blade is <br>all that is needed. You do need to be careful about moving too much rock off<br>the road. The idea about skid plates makes a lot of sense. This combination <br>worked great for me with a JD870.

I have a JD670 that I want to mount a small(caddigger) backhoe on the 3 point. I have been reading that this can be deterimental to the tractor. I have also read about a subframe that I assume attaches to the tractor and then the backhoe would attach to the subframe which would act to spread out the load. Does anyone know if there is one available for this machine? I could adapt the caddigger to it. SteveB

Some differences to be aware of: Loader max lift = 755 lbs for 790 and 1195 lbs for 4200; 4200 has independent pto.

I have a John Deere 4200 gear that I use to move logs. Its 26hp and what I do is put a draw bar in the bottom 3pt. hitch. That way i can attach a clevis and hook a chain to the log. When dragging the log, I raise trhe 3pt hitch a little, this allows the log to pass over obstacles and its much easier on the tractor. The lift capacity for the 3pt. hitch is approx. 1500 lbs.

What your missing is that position control is very important for when you are looking to repeat precise depths for activities such as tilling or box blading. On the b2100 you can set the dept and repeat it exactly every time. On the 7300, you would have to adjust it by eye. If you are not going to perform any precise activities off the 3pt. hitch, then the 7300 will work just fine.<br>P.S. If you plan to use a loader on the 7300, make sure you demo one first. They are not very fun to drive without power steering. I went through this when I purchased last year, and decided on the 1700. I just had to have PS because I do a lot of loader work.<br>
