I have narrowed my compact search to the JD4100 20hp(HST)tractor. I would like a grass/leaf bagger that will mount to the rear of the unit (3 point hitch?). JD advertises 2 types, both appear to be driven seperately by a Briggs 3-5hp motor. It would be nice to make use of the rear PTO instead of a seperate engine for the blower/sucker. Based soley on a brochure, it seems Kubota offers such a unit for the B1700,2100,2400 series tractors. Is this true, anyone seen a better unit or have experience with something different? If the Kubota is indeed PTO driven, could it be configured to work on the 4100?Secondly, I will probably be purchasing the unit with the R4 Industrial Tires for loader work,ect.. With an extra set of front turf tires/rims for summer mowing. Question is, will keeping the rear R4s (air filled) tear up the grass?I am afraid the Turfs will lack traction in snow/dirt for loader/blade/box scraper work. expected uses: Mowing=80%, loader=10-20%, Misc=5-10%. Any Ideas?

I have no experience with the blower/bagger but I believe the Kubota design is integrated with the mower deck. It appears there is a drive shaft with universal that comes out of a gearbox mounted on top of one of the mower blade spindles. This shaft drives the blower that is mounted at the mower discharge. Mower and blower are driven off the mid PTO. If a blower/bagger is important to you why not get the Kubota tractor to go with the bagger? I could not imagine listening to the racket of a Briggs engine running on the back of the tractor. ....

I have a the JD collector on my 755 (20 hp). It works well - especially in the fall for picking up leaves. It is loud and I wish I had a pto driven unit. However, there are times when I am not sure that there would be enough hp to keep everything running efficiently particularly during heavy mowing or leaf pickup. Do be careful not to bang the thing into obstacles while you are making turns. You will easily damage the object you hit such as scraping the bark off of a tree or knock the unit out of alignment.As far as the tires are concerned, if you have 4WD the turf tires will give you all of the traction you need - that's what I have and I do plenty of loader work in dirt and snow with no regrets. ....

New Holland has a pto driven catcher or least it's in their brochure. Being springand all I've been mowing every two or three days and may just have to buy one. ....

Thanks for everyone's advise and experiences,In response to Fred's idea of purchasing the Kubota tractor instead of the JD.I(we) have looked at the Kubota B2100. Unfortunately, the turning radius is less than we can afford for our lawn. I think it is a good unit, but even my wife didn't like certain features on the unit, and she know's nothing about tractors.Sorry guys, but I'm sure you all know what kind of influence a woman can havewhen it comes to tapping the bank account. I think the Boomer's super steer wouldbe ideal, but no dealer is close enough to warrent a purchase.Thanks again for all your help. ....
