I think, with the advise of everyone has given that a 4 footer will be my choice......I definitely don't want to over task the 4115.....I have more to do with it than just mow and if its broke and in the shop, can't get any of it done that way........And yes, with the PTO "ponies" only at 20, a 4 footer will work out better......
I've been on the Woods & Bush Hog websites, downloaded a pile of info......what brands are you guys using? & what pro's & con's are you seeing?

Like you, I don't believe the problem here has anything whatsoever to do with the length of the top-link.

The the drop links are likely set too far back on the lifting arms.

I would pull the pins on the lifting arms, where the drop links attach, and then move the drop links to the hole closest to the tractor.

I've included a photo of the three-point hitch in a link below. The lifting arms extend outward from the tractor, and attach to the pins on the rake, one at each side.

In the photo below, you'll notice that the drop links arms, which attach to the lifting arms, are set in the hole furthest away from the tractor. I believe this is what needs to be changed.

Move the drop links to the hole closest to the tractor. This will provide you with much greater height adjustment, but it will greatly reduce your ability to set the rake at a precise height.

SG, no bridge means a safe place to escape to.

Have no idea on the size of your island but there is a pond near me with a very light weight bridge to it for goat(s) to use. They do a good job on it and around the pond.

We have a NT304C. The 4wd shifter has been real hard to shift, sometimes impossible. I have the shifter out now and will be taking it to a machine shop to hopefully modify and fix. With lubrication the shifter will again move. Any suggestions?<br>

I am not aware of one but you might also find a local farm tractor dealership who deals in them.

Know nothing about the dealership who's link I am giving you other than they are in Seneca. The advertise on the web they offer grey market tractors.

Your tractor has plenty of power to operate the grapple, but it's too small to move or lift much material. Additionally, you'll have trouble finding a place to mount the extra spool valve. The hydraulic lines on the loader can be tapped into for the power to operate it. No need to install a remote outlet.

If you want to move a great amount of tree debris in a small about of time, you'll be much better off using a cinching cable; then drag the huge pile of debris to a stacking point, where it can either be fed into a chipper, or burned.

I believe you'd be better off installing a tooth bar on your bucket, to be used for pushing large piles of branches and twigs onto your cinching cable.

Once you have all of the branches piled atop of your cable, simply wrap the cable over the top of the pile and hook it to itself. When you begin pulling, the cable will tighten down on the pile.

I've moved HUGE piles of branches and limbs in this fashion, in much less time than it would take to move them with a grapple.

It is a factory cylinder. The cylinder housing is broken off on the end were the control valve is mounted and broken the control valve. I have taken it to a machinist there is one piece missing wich he said makes it almost impossible to weld up and machine down to spec not to mention very costly to try if it does not work. I have checked aftermarket companies and there are limited availability due to the fact mine has the control valve made into the endof the cylinder and all the ones I have found so far are longer wich is not a great problem I can relocate the mount end of the cylinder. The later models have the control valve at the bottom of the steering colum. I was hoping to find a used factory one I can rebuild and use. Thanks for all your help.

I have a Kelley 3 point mounted backhoe attached to an old MF135. Like Hardwood pointed out, there are also additional (bent) brackets that mount back to the frame. In my opinion, it still has too much flex and is very limited in use.

It all goes back to the intended use. In my case, with seldom use, it provides adequate performance. It is a "beater tractor" with single purpose use and am surprised it hasn't broken in half yet.

Then there are the guys like my "poor" farmer friends. They have a CAT backhoe with the extenda boom/hoe feature, etc. They must have well over $100,000.00 invested. The bucket is larger than on their JD crane. Did I mention they are "poor".

Like I said, it all depends on the application, how fast, how deep or how far away you need to reach and how much you're willing to invest.

With regard to backhoes, bigger is always better. I'd stick with the JD5105/JD48 backhoe and use the smaller tractor for other light duty applications.

I came here in the first place, many years back now, looking for ideas for new implements and some idle chatter. At the time I was debating going back into the fabricating business, and making implements and tools for CUT's, I still haven't done it full-scale, but do make lot's of stuff for our own business (building and maintaining golf courses).

I was brought up such that those who knew, guided and taught those who WANTED to know.......

I agree, it's the friendly relaxed attitude here that keeps me coming back.

BTW, for those interested, the next project is a self-propelled woodsplitter, you drive it to the wood and it picks up & splits the wood for you. Probably including a small elevator to then put the split wood into a truck or trailer directly.

Frank is correct. A short spout isn't going to cause you any problems. In heavy, wet snow, the short spout is better, because it won't plug up. Longer spouts tend to collect the sticky stuff.

Front-mounted snow blowers are very nice, but they are much harder to mount and dismount. I'm not joking when I say that it's almost necessary to have two tractors, if you plan to have a front-mounted blower, because it will tie up one tractor for the entire winter.

Unless you want to put a cab on your tractor, the hand crank spout isn't a big issue. For the most part, you'll be blowing all of the snow in one direction anyway.......with the wind.

I enjoy blowing the snow when the wind is fairly strong, as I never have to worry about the snow filling my coveralls, boots, gloves, or collecting on my face. I simply point the spout down-wind and start blowing. I make a dead run back to the starting point, and then start blowing again. There is no escaping this technique, even with a cab, simply because visibility becomes an issue.

Alrighty...the orginal poster is back and here is the scoop. The way the seat safety switch works is that you need weight pressing down right in the center of the seat. You can have bungies pulling the seat down or over a 100 lbs pressing down on the seat frame and not have the safety device feel it but with a dense weight right in the center of the seat, you are all set.

No electrical modification is required as long as you put something like a 15 lb lead weight right in the center of the seat.

I agree totally with your recommendations, I use mine in similar fashion. Also, what you are describing relative to the pivot point is THE problem with the Curtis, that is, they don't have one :)

I always like an invite! At forty seven I know what I would like and it would make you be able to snicker at your brother!

A loader is a must! Don't worry about the size as if you do it right the first time you only add on to the equipment. On the garage, it should be at least twice the size of the house!

I'd go for the seperate lawn mower and not look back and then get up to at least a small L of the weight. I do like to go light but for grading work or anything close the weight helps to keep it where it should be.

The BX's are awesome machines but you need to be larger unless you have way to much time on your hands. You have to much to do and the larger the machine the quicker you are able to move on to the next project.

The trouble codes should be a combination of four flashes, either long (1 sec) or short (1/2 second). A long and three short sequence means simultaneous command from forward and reverse. This is a normal situation that can happen when both pedals are pressed simultaneously and the correct response is that the tractor goes nowhere. If this is happening due to a wiring fault it would explain the problem. Maybe the forward and reverse positioning sensors are shorted together somewhere. The wiring under these machines can be caught on sticks and shrubs and can tear loose if not tucked and tied tightly out of the way. I installed the factory skid plate set on mine to avoid this sort of trouble. It would be very interesting to know what your dealer finds so please let us know! Good luck.

Good find Joel! Be sure when running the hydraulic hoses that you use elbows coming out of the valve so the hoses don't stick up and obstruct your vision.

Well, if your are "sure" the necessary parts are replaced (and it follows service done too), then it serves that you should have no reservations about buying one.

However, I feel---and I'll be blunt---that is obsurd and not realistic that parts and/or service would be performed before it hits the lot.

Take auto leasing for example. How many people do you know that actually maintain and/or drive their lease cars like they would if they owned them? Very few, if any at all.

Guys I know who sell/sold these machines will tell you they pay very little for the actual machine ($800-$2000) but the cost of shipping hurts profit. Then there is insurance, overhead, profit and taxes. So IMHO where is there room for replacing parts that need to be? Answer: There ain't. And if there is, that money goes in the dealer's pocket, not into a machine. Buyer beware.

And so goes gray-market anything. Many don't know why these machines end up here in the US: the asian governments have laws that declare construction equipment MUST be taken out of service under 2000 hours (I'm told by a gray market dealer). This is so that their country can keep replenishing stock with new machines thereby keeping their industry going.
