I have a 1989 John Deere 850 w/loader and power steering. Looking for a replacement power steering assist cylinder. Old one is not repairable and are obsoltete from dealer any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have already taken off cylinder and put on drag link to be able to use tractor but with loader it is hard to steer.

Why is the old one not repairable?
It must be pretty badly mangled to be beyond repair. We've demo'd some pretty good over the years, mostly rock hits to the bucket curl cylinder on a B/H but a few others too, all were fixable, albeit some needed new piston rods.
Any good hydraulic shop should be able to make up a replacement cylinder.

Hydraulic cylinders are fairly generic in nature. You shouldn't have any problem finding a replacement, so long as you make the necessary measurements and properly match the mounting supports.
Measure the overall length of the cylinder when in the closed position.
Measure the length of the cylinder when fully extended.
Find the diameter of the outer tube.
Measure the diameter of the cylinder's shaft.
Make note of the style of the supports on each end of the cylinder, and then measure the bolt holes if there are any.
Once you have these critical measurements, finding a replacement cylinder should be quite easy.
Try Surplus Center. I find 444 matches for keywords "Hydraulic Cylinder"

It is a factory cylinder. The cylinder housing is broken off on the end were the control valve is mounted and broken the control valve. I have taken it to a machinist there is one piece missing wich he said makes it almost impossible to weld up and machine down to spec not to mention very costly to try if it does not work. I have checked aftermarket companies and there are limited availability due to the fact mine has the control valve made into the endof the cylinder and all the ones I have found so far are longer wich is not a great problem I can relocate the mount end of the cylinder. The later models have the control valve at the bottom of the steering colum. I was hoping to find a used factory one I can rebuild and use. Thanks for all your help. ....
