If I were to buy a 25 HP tractor, lets just say a CK25, how many different models of back hoes could fit on that machine? Im not looking for a list, but rather an explanation- Let me keep going. Currently, I have a JD5105 with a JD 48 back hoe. This hoe does not use the three point hook up, but rather a couple of brackets on the bottom of the tractor. Obviously I can't put that hoe on on the CK25, right? (Yes, I am aware the JD 48 would tip over the CK25).
Do most hoes use a 3 point hook-up?
Is there a mechanical advantage to hooking into the bottom of the tractor?

Backhoes can place a LOT of stress on a tractor. Mounting it directly to the tractor with a subframe is much stronger than a 3-point mount and also has the advantage of reducing stress by mounting the backhoe closer to the tractor frame (less leverage). There have been many stories of tractors broken from the use of 3-point backhoes. They can be useful if carefully used but it's easier to cause damage with one. ....

KK; I'm not totaly up on three point hoes, but it seems that some offer a heavier duty top link or kit of some sort to help your top link of the three point hold the added stress. I don't really know what you mean about a mechanical advantage for frame mount hoes over three point mounts, but I do know that your Deere frame mount will be tons less stressfull on the tractor than any three point mount hoe. I'd sure try to stick with a frame mount in any size hoe. Frank. ....

I have a Kelley 3 point mounted backhoe attached to an old MF135. Like Hardwood pointed out, there are also additional (bent) brackets that mount back to the frame. In my opinion, it still has too much flex and is very limited in use.
It all goes back to the intended use. In my case, with seldom use, it provides adequate performance. It is a "beater tractor" with single purpose use and am surprised it hasn't broken in half yet.
Then there are the guys like my "poor" farmer friends. They have a CAT backhoe with the extenda boom/hoe feature, etc. They must have well over $100,000.00 invested. The bucket is larger than on their JD crane. Did I mention they are "poor".
Like I said, it all depends on the application, how fast, how deep or how far away you need to reach and how much you're willing to invest.
With regard to backhoes, bigger is always better. I'd stick with the JD5105/JD48 backhoe and use the smaller tractor for other light duty applications. ....
