There is a 4010 row crop tractor and a 4010 compact. I assume you mean the compact. The part numbers don't match, so the wheels are different. They may have same bolt configuration and may bolt on, but I can't find specs on 4100 wheels to know for sure,

I can't tell by the picture, but I assume with a loader it has mfwd? If so, I would value it at $6000 - $7000 around here if everything is in working order. If 2wd, probably $4000 - $4500.

The plastic line shouldn't have anything to do with the problem, although it should be fixed because it will leak. It is a seal drain line for the hydraulic pump. There is a tin plate under the pump you can remove with 2 bolts for access to it. I am not sure what pto type you have on your tractor, but the loss of hydraulics while holding clutch down is probably normal. If you do not have independent pto(pto lever between shift levers) the transmission pump stops pumping when you hold the clutch pedal down. That is the reason there is a smo=all reservoir behind the fuel tank. The main pump uses the oil in that tank while clutching to shift gears. If clutch is held in too long while using hydraulic functions, main pump runs out of oil. It relies on the transmission pump to supply oil to it.

Raise the rear wheels off the ground with the stabilizers. Then put range lever in neutral with brakes off. You should be able to turn rear wheels easily by hand. If they don't spin easily, the brakes are dragging. The brake levers at the final drives tend to seize. With hydro the brakes don't get used much and that is the reason they stick. Free them up with penetrating oil and then lube with Fluid Film or something similar to keep it working free,

First, is the engine out of the tractor? The upper pan is bolted to the frame. It is what holds the engine to the front of the tractor. If engine is out or frame and front end is separated, be sure you have all the bolts out. Should be 22 of them.

Sorry to hear you have internal problems. The estimate sounds plenty high, hopefully they were covering worst case scenario and you will get off easier. It is hard to beat the reliability of the old 2 cylinder tractors. The big thing they had going for them was simplicity. The newer tractors(especially compacts) stuff a lot of stuff into a small space and that requires components(gear,shifters, etc) to be smaller and lighter to fit in. If you have ever seen any transmission components of the old 2 cylinders compared to a compact tractor transmission, you would be amazed at the difference. Plus the older tractor ran at much lower rpms. probably about 1100 rpm versus 3000 rpm. more revolutions equals more wear. I am sure there will be arguments about this since lower speeds can equal more torque forces, but if a bearing is spinning with equal forces at three times the speed, there is going to be more wear.

Assuming you are referring to the 790 in your profile, yes those are worklight connectors. The JD kit for rear worklight is BM17981. It includes one light. 2 kits required if 2 worklights are desired. Not sure if this kit is still available however. Most any light could be wired into this within reason.

Another possibility is a restricted return line. You mentioned blowing out the lines, but did that include the return lines? Also remove the fitting in the pump where the return line connects. It is a check valve that sometimes gets clogged. Remove the check valve and put a bucket under the pump. Start it up and see if it will continue to run. The stanadyne pumps have a history of failing an internal ring in the pump and clogging the check valve, but from everything I see, the 3140's were equipped with Lucas pumps. Is yours a Lucas? Never saw one do that,, but it is possible.

Do any other hydraulics work? Steering or scv? I assume you have independent loader control valve? I would start by changing the hydraulic filter, draining hydraulic fluid and cleaning the screen. You also could have a bad stroke control valve in the pump. Answer back with more info and we'll see where to go next.

My guess is the clutch pedal free travel needs adjustment. Look under the left step and find the adjustable rod connected to the clutch pedal. Ty shortening the rod a couple of turns and see if tractor moves better. When adjusted properly, the clutch pedal should have about an inch of free travel. That means you should be able to easily push the pedal with one finger the first inch before the clutch actually starts to disengage. If it has been run too long with clutch out of adjustment, you may need a new clutch.

Sounds like a worn pump or relief valve. I would remove the pump and inspect it. The relief valve is in the pump housing also.

My suggestion would be to change the filter and clean the sump screen first. I agree with Imfedup, that filters usually cause more problems with cold oil, but sometimes debris will fall off of filters when oil flow stops, and hydraulics work better for a while until debris is sucked back into the filter. After that, I would suggest to start tractor and leave it sit and run for maybe 15 or 20 minutes without using any hydraulic functions. Then feel the hydraulic components with your hands to feel for heat. Internal leaks in the high pressure circuits will cause heat build up. Feel the pump, steering valve, selective control valves and the rockshaft housing, especially the just in front of the seat bracket and on the right side. If none of the high pressure components heat up noticeably, then chances are good you have an internal transmission leak. Are you always using the pto when hydraulics quit working? If so, try turning the pto off and see if hydraulics improve after about a minute. ZDOes your tractor have a hi-lo lever on left side of dash? If so, try running in lo and see if hydraulics quit, if so then shift to hi and see if hydraulics return. ANother place to look is the filter relief valve. It is located above the hydraulic filter housing. It needs a 1 1/4" wrench to remove the plug to access the valve. The cartridge slides out after removing the plug using a magnet or needle nose pliers. Check to see if a piece of dirt is holding the valve partially open.

The post you replied to is actually over 10 years old. Not sure he is still an active member. The special tools needed would be a special JD tool JDG1259. It is a special jig that bolts on the transmission housings used to measure clutch and housings to determine shim pack for proper clutch operation. You use it in conjunction with a depth micrometer. Other special tools would be jacks, stands, blocks, etc, to split the tractor.

It sounds like the feedback linkage may be broken or unhooked. Check #19 in image link. The linkage connects to the left lift arm on the rockshaft.

The socket size needed for blade change is 1 1/2". 3/4" drive will make it easy to break loose the nuts. You will probably need a 6 or 8 inch extension to reach down through the deck.

If the high pressure functions all quit at the same time, I would check the hydraulic pump coupler to be sure it is still turning the pump shaft. The splines can strip out and pump is no longer turning. If pump is turning, then you need to be sure oil is being delivered to the front pump. try removing the hose at the oil cooler coming from the top of the pump. Stick the hose in a bucket and start the tractor. You should get at least a gallon and a half in 30 seconds. If no oil is coming from the transmission, you wikk have no hydraulics. If you do have oil, then the main pump is bad. Could be a bad stroke control valve.

Actually the tractor will start with a bad seat switch. It only affects the pto.
