Hi Guys,
This is a follow up to my recent post on Extended Warranty. I called JD and spoke to a very sympathetic lady about my problem. I mentioned that my 4310 was "split open" because of a transmission leak. Then, I received a recall notice on the Ehydro problem, which means my 4310 will be "split open" again. My 4310 only has 12 hours on it! The lady told me that my 4310 came with a two year or 2000 hour warranty, whichever came first. After some discussion about how much work my tractor will actually do over the next two to three years, she suggested that I buy the warranty with additional years. So, I will be purchasing an additional 3 years which will cover me to 2008 with the same 2000 hours.
Just thought you'd like to know what I decided. My other consideration was the fact that I have a cab on my 4310, which has to be removed whenever my 4310 needs to be "split open" for whatever reason.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. If you find what parts they swap out for the recall I'd be curious to know. My tractor is just outside the covered serial number range.
Only 12 hours? How long have you had it?
What was the price for the extended warranty? ....

My serial number is LV4310H230789 which I find curious because the number is so low - even though I bought it in March 2003. It is below the serial range for the recall. I sent John Deere and e-mail requesting the date of manufacture and they responded that they don't keep that info and couldn't give me the date. I found that curious because there were people on this website that told me they could give that info if I couldn't get it from my dealer. If the dealer can get it - why can't John Deere? ....

Hi,
My extra 3 year warranty will cost $750.00. The other consieration I had was my cab which has to be removed for any major work to the engine/drive train. That's extra on labor that I would have to pay, this way I'm covered. I got my 4310 in June of 2003, but only used during the summer. It is garaged in ME and I live in MA, but I am retired now so will be spending more time in ME in the future.
On the 4310 recall list the following serial numbers were on the JD web site - LV4310H232267 through LV4310H233638. Unfortunately, I'm right in the middle of the two serial numbers shown.

2flints - so my low serial number makes more sense in that you bought yours after I bought mine and you are in the middle of the recall range. The one drawback to this extended warranty is that it has $250 deductible (correct?) and I would still have to pay the dealer $150 round trip to pick it up (if I don't purchase a used trailer). That's a cool $400 per problem even with an extended warranty. ....

Hey,
To be perfectly honest I have not received literature from JD that details their extended warranty plan. I won't have your $150.00 transportation cost. I will have to weigh the $250.00 deductable against the cost for major repairs. I will have to get back to you and any one else who may be interested. My beloved wife is springing for the extended warranty should I decide to get it. Her reasoning in support of the extended warranty is..."we would have to pay someone as much as $500.00 per winter season just to keep our 1000 foot driveway clear of snow." So, with the JD I will do it and the $250.00 deductable doesn't look that bad and I won't have to pay it until something goes wrong!
What do you think?

If you don't have the $150 transport fee I think its a decent deal for $750 for a 3 year extension. If anything is going to fail it will probably fail within 5 years. I can see having peace of mind for something that is so expensive - I usually like my 7 year, 100000 mile warranty on cars. Especially if your wife is in agreement.
I don't think I will go for it. I have the additional $150 fee, plus I didn't get in within the one year window. I called the dealer about 2 days before my first year was up - but he never got back to me. I know I could push the issue, but I guess I'll take my chances. I'll be watching my tractor very close this last year of my warranty to make sure everything is in perfect condition. I will just keep my fingers crossed.
