For the new holland tc 40, I am going to get the Ag. tires. there are 2 choices, 14.9 inch or 13.6 inch on 24 inch centers. Are there any benifits to the smaller tire? The larger tire is more money, is it worth it. Like I said before I will mostly be doing farm land work and will not be doing any grass cutting in the yard with it. ? Thanks.

Are you sure there are 2 AG tires available? Check that one isn't Industrial (probably the wider ones). When I got my TC33D last year there three tires available: turf, Ag, and Industrial. The wider the tire the more traction (typically) you'll get (providing tread pattern is the same). But I have a hunch the skinnier tire you mention is actually taller than the other (Industrial). Industrial tires are good all-around tires even on grass, however for heavy field work Ag's have much more traction. They're also much better in mud too. ....

On my JD their were two ag tire choices, an 11.2" and a 12.4". The 12.4s had deeper lugs and steeper tread angle for better mud traction and were taller, increasing ground clearance. Since I was after the best possible traction I went with the more aggressive tires. Set them as wide as possible for maximum stability if you have hills to deal with. ....

If you are doing field work then in general you want the largest contact area and lowest ground pressure possible. Depend on the type of soil you have in your area, ie how much does it compact you may want to go to the larger tire. ....

Earth works
The 33 horse is offered with only one size tire in AG. The 35 40 and 45 you have a choice of the 7x16 on front and 13.6x24 on back or the 8X16 on front and the 14.9x24 on back in agriculture tires. I was wondering if one inch wider tires will make that much of a difference considering they are more money? Tires are one place I dont want to cheap out on since you use them 100% of the time. Its funny that they dont say anything about the tread angle and depth on the web site. Infact I have not found anywhere on the web what kind of tires they are either so I cant search for them unless I call the dealer back. I forgot to ask. ....

I'd guess that the larger tires are 6-ply and the smaller ones are 4-ply. Something else to check on. ....

KW
Thanks that is good advice to check!

A note to all:
I wanted to thank everyone here for puttin up with all my generic questions. I usually have a pretty good idea of the answers but often throw a question out there because I always seem to learn a new angle or info I did not know. I dont want to make a mistake with a purchase like this (large amount of money) so I will have many more questions in the next week or so. I promise you all that in a few months I will be able to help out with my own experiances with these cuts. Right now I have only experiance with my old 8n ford and any tractoe that i may have borrowed, LOL. I do work at Case/new holland, so if anyone has any questions about the plant I work at let me know.
Thank you all again, I really appreciate your advice.
