This is a show that is truely worth while. If you have never seen how it was done in the olden days (back when Art was a kid, just kidding Art).
The show is this weekend so this is short fused.

There is a place near Boyne City Michigan that has a HUGE antique tractor show every summer. They have music, flea market all kinds of good stuff. ....

Art you are right on both accounts. But I do remember driving the old 1936 stake truck thru the field while my Dad and uncles loaded oat shocks on, going to the threasher powered by and F30 Mcormack-Deering. I was not old enought until I was 10 or so to be able to help put the shocks into the threasher. It was a different day and way of life.
New combines are much better. New choppers and the list goes on. ....

Harvey, that was a cool link. I saw some old "Johnny Poppers" in the pictures with the steam tractors. Been a loooooonng time since I have heard or seen one of them running. Kinda like an AK-47; they have their own distinctive sound, unmistakable. It would be very interesting to see how they run the steam tractors. I bet those things were loads of fun to get up and running of cold mornings! ....

Harvey, for years I've said change is one of the constants in life. How many people live for it? When thinking of the steam tractors think of the people that got burned or wouldn't learn how to work with them and were afraid to deal with them as the horse kick they might have got didn't leave any scars. Think of the hand work that has changed and been eliminated since the combine! That was some time ago, how many people are afraid to play on the machines we are conversing on right now for the fear of the unknown!!!! ....

A year or so ago I watched this TV show called Classic Tractors. One of the tractors was unlike anything I had ever seen. During operation the Farmer walked behind it and controlled it via reigns, like they did with a team of horses. The tractor also had a seat but the manufacturer didn't think anyone would use it because farmers wanted to walk behind it like they did with horses.

DKI I meant to response earlier. It it truely a worthwhile event if you can find the time. Hopefully there are enought Ole Timers left out there to carry it on for the future generations. Most states have the associations that still do the shows.
This one my uncle loaded 6 or so of us in the back of his pick-up, a brand new 1962 C20, no caps in those days one old car seat and a couple wedges of hay for seats. It was a 2+ hour drive 1 way I'll never forget it. Have taken my kids in the 90's. They do not appreciate the work or danger that was involved to operate this stuff. Of course they have never push mowed a lwan or trimmed with a little sickle, let alone any thing on the farm.
If I recall a couple of years ago at the Ohio state fair there was a terrible accident with a steam tractor the relief valve did not open and it blew up killing several people and the entire crew.
I have seen tremendous change in the farm equipment arena and like it all.
Chief we still have several farmers here using the old 2 cyl JD's. They are fun now, but sit on one all day harrowing a plowed field, ah hell when I was 14 it was fun and it sure beat the heck out of cleaning calf pens.
I'll take the new stuff anyday. ....

Pretty cool tractor in the photo. It says 65 HP, that's pretty good. I didn't htink it would ahve thta much power, that thing isn't that big. I wonder how much fuel? you need to make it run for a day. ....
