Would help if you gave us the make and model, HSD or Manual shift. Simple answer is there is generally a lever that makes the selection with the clutch depressed. On Kubotas I shift on the run, clutchless, as long as wheels are straight. ....

I have had a John Deere that had switch on the dash. My Kutoba's all have lever as Dennis explain. I expect most if not all smaller tractors use a lever. ....

In both tractors that I’ve had hydro, NHTC33 and Kobuta Lx3310, I’d stop wheels straight then clutch thru speed range, then shift 4wd lever,, May have to clutch it several times.. on occasion with all levers in “neutral “ I’d tap the forward or rearward pedal just enough to spin the “gears” then clutch and try moving 4wd lever into selection…. There are times nothing will be in exact alignment for east shifting. ....

WOW!
Tractorpoint was the forum that really helped me the most over the years. I seldom am on any forum in last couple of years and shows in my diesel fuel bill dropping greatly! There were some really great people here and sure still are. Taught me a lot in many ways. Sadly, some have gone on for various reason, some of them have passed but there are several I hold in my memory and heart. Amazing how good a friend can be and yet never know their face or voice.

Does my heart good when the newbie, is the teacher! May God Bless you and lead you in this life and further. Kenneth

Ain’t that the truth my friend!! I was down the east coast earlier this spring to a 40th reunion at Cherry Point NC and in planning the trip thought of a couple of folks I’d like to (finally) visit with along the way there or on through to Florida.

Unfortunately my 94 year old fathers health turned a planned month long trip into a 2 day trip.

Next time Kenny, I promise. LOL.

Best of luck. ....
