I have been shopping for a tractor and wondering whether I should buy the B2630 or the BX 25.5 HP tractor. I will be doing mowing and snow removal and occasional loader work probably use the FEL only couple times a year. Will finish mow couple acres, probably get front blower as well.

I was concerned that the BX looks like a jazzed up Garden tractor while the B2630 seems to have the classic big rear small front tires.

Any pros or cons of each ?

Bubba5,

Both are very fine machines, however I do prefer the larger B-series over the BX tractors.

The larger B-series machines have a standard Category 1 (Cat-1) 3-point hitch, making it possible to purchase implements from any local farm store.

The smaller BX type tractors (sub-compacts) are much lower to the ground, making it necessary to purchase special Type-0 category implements......which most of the local farm implement dealers don't normally stock.

Generally speaking, I believe you'll have a much better experience with the larger B-Series machine. Mostly because once you own a tractor, your mind begins racing with the number of projects you can't wait to tackle. In other words, you'll soon end up owning quite a few implements, such as tillers, cultivators, rakes, chippers, blowers, posthole diggers, etc. (I hope you have room for all of these things, or you'll need to start making plans to build a large shed, besides. LOL)

Hope this helps.

Joel ....

Is there any difference in how you mount the mid mount mower on the B2630 or the BX? How long does the on off process take ?

Does the comparable JD make mower and or FEL any easier to mount dismount? What are the JD models that compete with Kubota? ....

Bubba5,

The Kubota on-off time for the loader is about 2 minutes each way. The mid-mount mower deck time is about 5 minutes each way.

The Kubota website has a comparison list for manufacturers who make tractors similar in size to each of Kubota's offerings.

Maybe a little late, but if you can afford it, I'd opt for the larger one.
I own two older New Holland compacts in the 20 series with HP from 20 to 27 and each works fine for stuff like you do. I also have the smallest Kubota BX, the BX 1860, about 18 HP. It is an amazing little machine and never seems to be underpowered for what I do. The only complaint I have is the up-down control for the three point is not like larger machines. It merely controls which direction you want to go, not where, like a three way light switch if you will. Let go and it self centers and stops moving (up or down). Rather difficult for grading or snow plowing with a rear blade. Also that control is placed too low for easy use. ....

Is what you describe called draft control? ....

As to my complaint about the BX three point system for raising or lowering the system, it is not a true "draft control" where you set the control lever to a certain point and then the system moves the three point arms to that position.

In the BX I have there is no supplemental follower device, as on most larger tractors, to keep that set of three point arms at the desired position. Instead the control is spring loaded to sit at mid position. From there you can move it down or up and let go it returns to mid point. It apparently attached to a valve with probably 4 ports. one is pressure in. Two is feed to the pistons, Three from the pistons and Four to the reservoir. (Could be ports two and three are the same port) The valve connects one and two when the lever is puled up from its spring loaded neutral position. Three and four then connected together relieve pressure on the pistons as the control lever is pushed down. Let go and arms stop. Pretty crude. The ability to gradually move the three point up or down is very touchy. Ir's almost either full on or full off for each movement (up or down). This is totally different for controlling the three point arms than for larger tractors. It's livable, but could be much nicer. My use for this three point is mostly snow removal on hard surfaces, so no big deal. Grading earth or snow removal on lawns is another matter. In that insistence I turn the blade around so it does not dig in. That works quite well, especially by backing up. ....

Bubba5 - I have the 2320 and I have a similar complaint on the 3 point as Oldest Guy. I am used to the 3 point control on larger tractors and the B2320 is a little touchy, it is not like the BX series where it spring loads back to center except on lift. You can set the B series to a point and get it to hold that point it is just very sensitive and short ranged on the down control. Also I second the comment on implements, the type 1 hitch is much easier to find implements for than the BX series. One thing I am amazed at is the fuel economy of the B2320, the thing is a 6.5 gallon tank and I have over 16 hours and a little over a quarter of a tank left. Temp the other day was 23 and the little rascal started right up, very impressed with the cold weather starting, granted we are not below 0 yet but I still expect it will start better than anything but a gas engine. ....
