hello,
i have a 1070 with the yanmar. when i turn the key on, sometimes it clicks and the indicator lights come on - and sometimes it does not click. if it does click, and the lights come on, when i try to crank it, nothing happens and the lights go off. battery is strong. ground is strong. it is not turning over at all.
if anyone has any ideas, i would appreciate it.
thanks!

How are you judging the battery to be strong? Measuring 12.6 volts doesn't indicate it will hold up under any load.
Could be the ignition switch. Can you get it to crank by jumping it at the solenoid?

thanks.
new battery... thought that might be the issue since the old one was 5 years old. but it wouldn't jump, should have known that wasn't the problem.
i haven't tried jumping from the solenoid. actually not sure where it is...appears to be completely enclosed, maybe within the starter?

Check your cables, clean gnd to frame, check starter connection to frame.
Corrosion in the cable lugs could also be suspect.
Good Luck ....

Since you are losing lights when attempting to start, I would suspect a bad battery cable. Try connecting a jumper cable from the positive battery post to the large lug on the starter to bypass the cable. ....
