I have a Kubota L2850 with about 2,400 hours on it. It runs great and has no real problems with it. I bought it last year in May 2005 at a good price due it was not very pretty. Over the last year or so I have done a lot of work around the house with it; however it is starting to look like it could use some attention. The body is a little banged up (why the good price), the hydraulic lines on the loader are rusted pretty badly for the steel ones and the rubber ones have definite signs of age. So this weekend, I plan to remove the loader from the tractor and bring the tractor into my shop for the winter to do some work on it. So now I have some questions that maybe the people on this form can help me with:
1. Can I get the steel hydraulic line from someone other than Kubota?
2. Some of the rubber lines look like they could be a little longer and not get damaged rubbing together. Is it OK to make them longer? Do I really need to go to Kubota for these?
3. If I am going to replace all the lines on the loader, would it be OK to sand blast the loader, as long as the line were still in place?
4. The front body parts are either rusted bad or banged up and ugly, can I get new/used parts for this tractor? If used-where?
5. I plan on painting the whole tractor/loader, if I get the body parts, what do you guys think about not replacing the decals, at least not all of them?
6. Has anyone gone to an automotive body shop supplier and just used straight automotive type paint, get colors as close as possible, to do the repaint?

Duke, for ease, I used your numbering for the answers;
1) Absolutely, any decent hydraulics shop can do this for you,
2) Any length you like is fine, again, see above,
3) Lines don' matter, especially if you are going to change them, but you might want to remove all the hydraulic cylinders and replace them afterwards, just protect the bores of the mounting bosses,
4) Yes, there are several sources for used parts, Google for "used tractor parts" or something like that,
5) Entirely a matter of taste, yours,
6) Yes, quite successfully, but if you paint the whole thing it doesn't amtter if it's a little off, as long as the whole thing is one colour.

I only disagree with the paint answer,a good impliment paint is alot harder and wears longer without maintance,not to sell anything but "agri-supply" sell paint in all of the big company's colors with a catilyst hardner. ....

The last time I checked the auto paint people, duPont and the gang also sell impliment paint and the price is likely better. If you take it to the auto painter he will have a supplier. ....

Peters is right on the money, I should have been clearer.
Any reputable paint company makes a wide variety of paint. We have painted a lot of equipment with Acrylic Enamel from several manufacturers over the years, most of it was nearly bullet-proof.

Thanks guys for the information and the heads up from "Muff" on protecting the Mounting points when sandblasting.
I think finding used body parts are going to be my biggest problem. I would hate to buy new, but I am not going to rule it out of my plans right now.

I pulled the loaded Sunday and after I got the loaded off, I was really able to see the damage to the front end parts. The plastic grill is trashed as well as the mounting for the head lights. The side engine covers were crinkled in the process also from what ever the tractor hit. I was able to order a new grill and head light pieces from the local dealer, however the side engine covers were around $250 each so I will try and fix them. As far as paint, the local body shop supply place says it can match the Kubota paint, a lot less money than the dealer. They suggested to bring in one of the new parts and they can scan it and mix the paint accordinatly.
I am still going to try and find some used parts and thanks guys for the help with some of the possible web sites to try.
