After reading all the posts. I beleive I will try the 20 Ton from TSC. The screw situation will never work for me since I always work alone. I still haven't moved on the fireplace insert yet, so I may just go ahead and get a splitter now and see if I can get enough wood before hand.

I have a L2850 and as a winter project, I am thinking about adding some real gauges to the tractor. My easy checker is working fine, but I still want to add gauges to the tractor. I plan on an oil pressure gauge and a voltage gauge at the very least, I may add others. There is no place really to add the gauges, so I will probably build or find a panel to add to the tractor. <br>

Does anyone know what this L2850 should read as far as oil pressure? Also do you guys have any recommendations for the gauges themselves? I was thinking of using boat gauges just because they are ment to be in the weather outside.

Again guys, this site has a wealth of information.

I suspected the dead battery was causing the alt. not perform correctly and now I kind of understand why.

As far as the lights, I never use them.

Since I do have 8 forward speeds, I will bring the RPM up and use different gears. Honestly, since tractor and diesels are new to me, 5 years ago, I alway wondered if I was doing the right thing leaving the engine at idle.

I have been sitting on the side in this stump removal post. However, I have solved that problem for myself about removing stumps.

I have an older L2850 with a bucket and tried many times to remove stumps with digging, pulling, burning, etc, etc, etc. and come to the realization that the stumps were put there by God and God can take them away. I came to this realization after having to weld up the bucket frame due to cracking it under the tractor, welding up the cracked bucket lift arms, and then turning a perfectly good box blade into a diamond shape after playing with a few stumps, so it is no longer a box blade since by definition a box is supposed to be square.

So now I look at the stump removal like this:
1. If I did not create the stump, I do not touch it. This is a God problem.
2. I do not create any stumps that I can not live with. See http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s114/duke8444/Tree%20Removal/ for pictures of such a situation.

The L2850 is absolutely stout enough to remove many stumps, but between the time it takes, the breakage potential on the equipment, it is not worth fooling with them. Just get them professionally removed or live with them.

Last year I rebuilt and refinished a L 2850 and used these guys, below, in PA for about 90% of the parts I needed. They were comparable in price to the local Kubota dealer even when the shipping charges were added for Kentucky. I used them mainly because they could get the parts faster than the local dealer and overall were easier to work with.

I have an L 2850 with a bucket and it has 2,200 hours on it and it still runs strong. The only problems with it have been electrical and they were easy fixes. Mine was a little trashed from a cosmetic standpoint when I got it, so last year I cleaned, sandblasted, and painted it. Today it looks new, if you are interested in seeing it, look at the web site listed.

I have had some problems with the front wheel seals, but everytime I check the front end it never appears to need any fluid added so the leaks must be small but do leave spots on the garge floor.

I am looking at buying a JD 503 bush hog to used on my Kubota L2850. The unit looks ok with the normal rust and ware. The guy wants $250 for it and I am considering it. Do anyone know anything about these cutters and will it fit my Kubota OK.<br>

The tractor has had only two problems. The first was all the electrical items were bad and the previous owner never fixed them, the lights, the shut off solenoid, and charging system. All easy fixes and done. The second problem has been the front wheel seals, which I have not fixed. I check the front unit oil level every so many hours and then just top it off. The leaks are small and even don�t appear to leak every time I use the tractor, just sometimes-weird I know, but that is what happens. The previous owner did replace the hydraulic pump before I bought it and I had no problems with it since I have had it.

It is a strong and dependable unit. I have since fixed all the cosmetics items and repainted it, so it looks like new and with 2,000 hours on it I plan on keeping it for a long time.

Thanks Guys for your recommendations. I did go look at that new Cub Cadet/Yanmar. I am hooked. That is one nice tractor and smaller than my Kubota for around the house. I had two Yanmars before and have nothing but good things to say about them.

I appreciate all your comment about the container tractor buys. The reason I am even looking at this is for something to do when I retire in a few years. I have already cleaned up a few tractors of my own and then peddled them. I have actually sold them so quick, I thought my prices were too low, but by then they were gone. They were John Deere and Kubota’s tractors so they were gone fast. An example is a JD 650 I picked up for $2,000 that was fine mechanically but looked pretty rough. I used this tractor around the house for two years and then one winter cleaned it up with the idea of selling it. I put it in the paper and sold it the next day $4,000. This area of south center Kentucky does not have many used tractors for sale in this price range and they appear to will sell quickly if they looked OK. I am redoing my Kubota L 2850 with a loaded and I have a few guys are already interested in it and it is not really for sale right now. I may just keep it myself.

However, in seeing the demand that appears to exist, I started to think about they grey market container tractors to fix up and sell. The more I check, the more risky it appears unless you are a real dealer. Also the cash outlay up front is substantial. A full container of 16 tractors or a half container of 8 tractors at about $2,500/$4,000 must be sent to the broker before you see anything. They have your cash for about 30/45 days before the container gets delivered and you only can ask for a mix of several different brands on the container. Where I live, I believe only the Yanmars will move and anything else I could sit on for a long time. It would definitely kill any kind of cash flow. With the problems you have brought up, buying individual tractors and fixing them may be the way to go and not get into the whole dealer situation.

Thanks Art,

I am actual taking a lot of this tractor apart to repaint and fix some things wrong with it. I think your right, it probably is a two stage clutch. The guy I bought it from disconnected the wires from the clutch solinoid, nutral safety switch I think. I am not sure I like that.

I pulled the loaded Sunday and after I got the loaded off, I was really able to see the damage to the front end parts. The plastic grill is trashed as well as the mounting for the head lights. The side engine covers were crinkled in the process also from what ever the tractor hit. I was able to order a new grill and head light pieces from the local dealer, however the side engine covers were around $250 each so I will try and fix them. As far as paint, the local body shop supply place says it can match the Kubota paint, a lot less money than the dealer. They suggested to bring in one of the new parts and they can scan it and mix the paint accordinatly.

I am still going to try and find some used parts and thanks guys for the help with some of the possible web sites to try.

Thanks guys, tomorrow I will clean all the terminals and give it a charge and then check the voltage at the red wire. The tractor usually sits inside, but this summer do to some other projects it has been sitting outside and it has collected some hornets nest and possibly mice. I will let you know how I make out.

I checked a few places and the price for these 13.6-24 was around $350 ea and that was not installed. I was told this was not a popular size. They suggested that another size might be cheaper, at the same time they did not suggest a size. I looked on the internet and the orginal tires for this machine were 12.4-24. I do not understand the difference between the two, but I may have to check it out. I know I really do not want to go with a smaller tire than what is on the tractor now, but bigger tires may be cheaper if a more popular tire.

Any suggestions would be welcome, I do not understand these tractor tire sizes. The fronts were also chaned from the orginal 5.00-15 to 7-16 which is on the tractor today.
