I was just thinking how certain things are compelling once you have them and you cannot give them up.

For example I had a gear tractor for 22 years and having a gear versus hydro never bothered me. But after I got the hydro I cannot shutup about it.

Likewise with Tivo, first my brother had it and quite frnakly I thought he was nuts the way he went on about it.

Then finally I got one, and I again could not stop talking about how great it was. In fact when my brother in law was over I gave him my feature pitch and he went out and got it the next day.

So just curious how many of you have Tivo, and how many of you feel a hydro after owning a gear is a modern marvel that you absoultely must have, no going back.....And what other innovative things are on your list of new "gotta have" products?

It's not Tivo, but we have a Dish network PVR which is the same basic thing. We would have a real hard time going back to watching TV without it now. Never had a gear tractor, but since I've never owned a vehicle with an automatic I doubt a gear would bother me too much. Having the infinitely variable speed has been great for maneuvering amongst the trees, that's for sure. I'll tell ya what else has been great. We put all our CD's on an MP3 server and use an AudioTron to play them. It's great, pick any type of music or any artists you want and just play 'em. No flipping between CD's, no commercials, no satellite audio fees, no obnoxious DJ's and all your music available at the touch of a knob. ....

I changed the title on this as the question is really about what things you find that after obtaining you would never want to be without it.

Or on the other hand it would also be interesting to list the things that you have gotten that you could live without or rent or borrow. In my my case I would say the "pressure washer" I got last year was the most expensive and least used tool I have ever bought.

Cell phone. I got my wife one years ago, didn't have one until about 2 weeks ago. Voice dialing! Text messaging! I can't stop playing with it.

Internet access. Yep, there are still people without it...I get the shakes if I'm offline for more than 24 hours.

Sadly, I have neither TiVo (no TV) nor HST. Maybe next decade.

Top-and-Tilt is a must-have for me. After having it I would never want to be without.

My worst purchase is a 45 foot ladder. We have a really tall house and I bought this to reach the high spots to maintain the satellite dish, replace floodlights, etc. This thing is almost unmanageable for one person. I'd rather spend the money and rent a manlift for a day than wrestle with this monster. ....
