Not familiar with the 1610 but the fuse box on many Yanmars is up under the dash a little on the left hand side. ....

On most they're in the area of the operator's left knee. Or get a Yanmar filler cap with a mechanical gauge built in. Or order a work-around manual from Murray Publishing. Or top up after every major use (don't let it run dry). Or assume it's not the fuse and do some electrical troubleshooting. ....

So it is a defective gauge---

have not had a chance to look around at the site yet---but will do ASP---

skip trust you find this site as helpful as I have.
As to your gauge, have you looked to see if there could be something in the tank affecting it's movement or could the arm on it have been bent? Could the float on it have been damaged where it is holding fuel and does not float freely? ....

After reading your post Kthomson---it got me to thinkin that some fluel has entered the float ----as now the needle in the gauge now moves ever so slow---before it would jump rite up to the reading.
Don't know how to fix that---perhaps I may check the fuel level as I do in my CJ5 jeep----gauge does not work in it also---- I insalled 2 female conecters in the dash---I then stick the prongs of a ohem meter in-----the ohem reading will tell how much fuel is in the tank.
But since the filler neck is a straight shot----I think a yard stick would be the answer here.
Thanks ....

Sometimes when we know what is wrong it no longer worries us. You could just make a habit of filling tank when finished which helps prevent moisture built up in the fuel also. ....

Aaaah--bout that fuse box---I finally found it--was lookin at some writing up close by the clutch pedal near the floor board---happened to look sideways---there it was--pretty dirty lookin--almost did not spot it. Before I had been lookin from the top down.
So you fellers were rite on---I was just not lookin in the rite area. Cheers
BTW---all fuses were OK ....
