Anyone know how much length a 47 or 48 backhoe adds to a JD 4310/4410 tractor?
Edited: I wasn't clear. I meant how much length does it add when folded up in a stored position. I'm curious if it would fit in my garage. Also, if it sticks up above the ROPS in the stored position, how far above the ROPS is it?

My 4115 and 46 hoe take up every inch of a 16 foot trailer. The combo you are asking about has 3 inches more wheel base and will dig only one foot deeper.
Brochure pics of a stowed 47 backhoe are the same height a folded ROPS. Mine is similar, look at my #1 picture.
The 4310/47 will be a bit bigger than my 4115/46, but will probably still tape out under 18 feet. ....

Ken From the front of the hoe to the back, folded tight, is 6' the height to top of boom/dipper is 5' 9". I stored mine on a dolly with casters last year. This year no room in sheds so it's under the wood shed 6' overhang. You will need to tie the stabilizers together and tie the dipper go under the bucket to the boom to keep it from unfolding during the winter. ....

Thanks, guys. Sounds like it would fit in my short garage bay with a little to spare.
Harvey, just to clarify is that 5'9" height measurement on the tractor with the 3ph lowered? ....

Morning Ken that is the height for the 47 mounted. Your 3ph is not involved with the hoe except to lift it onto the hoe frame.
The 48 is 6'9" tall folded up mounted. HOWEVER you can lower the boom and get it mouch lower to go through a door way then raise it back up and pin it for storage.
Mine setting on the dolly is only a couple of inches lower. You'll need 3" of extra space to lift hoe off the frame or lift it off then rehook hoses and fold it up. ....

What kind of dolly do you have your BH on? You have any pictures? I would like to make something for my 48 BH to allow me to move it around the garage. I think it weights about 1000 pounds or so. I made a dolly for my box blade and that has worked out very well.

4 treated 2X6 3' long or so. 4 4" steel casters bolted with 1/4 X 4.5 carriage bolts each corner. The back of hoe needs a 2x 4 under it to off set the balance.
Dolly is in shed and hoe is out at woodshed at moment. so no pics anytime soon, unless I have to put it on this time of year to bury something.
I moved mine around in the shop last winter by myself but as I said earlier you'll have to tie things together with rope or they will settle. ....
