I am new to the "tractor world", but excited about getting in it. I'm a city guy who just bought 10 acres. My new neighbor said I should look for a minimum of 30hp. Does that sound reasonable? I'm in the process of purchasing a compact tractor to maintain this acreage (primarily mowing wild grass and cleaning up dead trees, etc). I have a Deere lawn tractor and am very pleased with it,but unless I'm missing something, I don't see where Deere has anything close in price/specs ratio to the B7800. Specifically, having 30 hp,hydrostatic tran, and wet brakes. It look's like I can get a B7800 w/loader for $15,400 plus $850 for a 60' rear mowing deck (bush hog). Is this a good price? Is a rear deck the way to go or should I consider a mid deck? And finally, the acreage is not level, so are there weights, ballasts, etc. that I should get to give me the safest "platform" to operate on? Thanks for your advice.

Urbanfarmer,

I paid $11550.50 for my B7800, $2,700 for the LA402 loader. That works out to $14,250.50 for the tractor and loader, so unless your price includes tax, it seems a little high.
I believe the B7800 would be a good fit for you, I am happy with mine so far (had it one week now). I got the mid mount mower, which is handier for mowing in close quarters. The rear mount is much cheaper, (72" Mid mount cost me $2,525), and also quite a bit easier to install/remove. ....

Thanks for the information. Where did you get your tractor. I have called three different dealers and they are all considerably higher. Even if I had to pay for shipping, it looks like I could save $1000+. The lowest, I have out here for a 7800 is $12593, a loader is $3350, and $845 for a rear cutter....Once again, thanks for the help!

Urbanfarmer,

I got mine at Goss Tractor in Pickens county, Georgia. My salesman's name was William Cantrell. Goss' phone no. is 706-253-1996.

I called around and got quotes from several dealers in my area, and they were all very close - close enough that I imagine they would have met Goss' price. I bought from Goss primarily because they are only ~5 miles from the house.

Good luck,
Jim ....

Mark - when shopping I was at Moen Machinery Brock told me that they shipped a tractor to Nevada. So you're the guy! I ended up with a JD, but Moen seemed to be a class act. Their rookie sales guy has been with them for 10 years and they all genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs and camaraderie with each other. If I wanted a Kubota I would have bought from them but I chose a JD 4310 instead.

In retrospect, I wish I had bought there. I foolishly trusted the local dealer and by the time the truth finally emerged, Brock/Moen was all out of BX22's.

I ended up at Gold Country Kubota. The prices were not as good as Moen, but they were truthful and they knew what they were doing, unlike the local guy. ....

Guys,

I got a call from the salesman I bought my tractor from. Seems that someone from North Carolina called him up & referenced my name, as well as the prices I paid for my tractor. William, my salesman, is looking for this gentleman's phone number - he's ready to deal on a B7800! Whomever called William for a quote had to have gotten the information from my earlier post in this thread since I have not been in contact with anyone else from North Carolina. Whoever you are, if you're out there, give William a call at Goss Tractor. This is my first Kubota, but I have bought equipment, parts, etc. from Goss. They are a first class outfit. ....

So, is no one going to 'fess up'? Seriously, from what I understand, the gentleman who called my dealer was disappointed when the quoted price for a B7800 was more than what I paid. My salesman assumed this gentleman and I were acquainted since he had all the 'dirt' on what I paid, etc. William (salesman) called me wanting the guy's name and phone number to provide an updated quote. He (William) talked to the owners of the dealership, and got approval to sell the B7800, and loader for the prices I posted above. The MMM would be slightly higher as there had been a price increase on this item from Kubota. The mystery caller had to have gotten the info from this site, so come clean!

This is like a good whodoneit! ....

I can help narrow it down somewhat........it wasn't me. I'm out here in California and it's too much of a pain to get a tractor shipped out here. By the way, you've got a great deal on yours, the cheapest I can get out here is $16.5K for a 7800,R4 tires, flexible ROPS,LA402 loader, and a 60' rear cutter. I considered shipping it out from your guy, but I figured it would be a wash, and if that's the case, a local dealer was probably the better way to go. Anyway, good luck, finding your mystery farmer! ....
