Hi ya'll, I'm a full time farmer in mid TN. We have a kubota B6200 that we bought slightly used in 1989, little 3 cy 15 HP engine. We've used it ever since and it's done a lot of rough work for it's size, but now the engine is getting so weak it's marginal on driving it's rototiller. I don't think it'll make it through another season and we need it bad. I suppose the engine is getting worn out, but would like an opinion of someone who's been around a lot more of them as to what I should do for it. I'm a home mechanic (unofficially trained by a neighbor who was an excellent pro mechanic) and have rebuilt several engines some of which I turned cranks and bored cylinders on machining equipment, so I could do it myself with a rebuild kit. Thanks.

Several possible reasons for low power. Seem like your first step should be to test compression. ....

I should have prefaced my reply with the assumptions all other things have been ruled out like fuel and air filters are okay, etc. ....

I'd say the best test on those little buggers is to lad them up and look for smoke and the colour of it.

If it's black, get the injectors and pump done, bet it runs like new after that.

It's been my experience that unless they lacked maintenance, you really can't wear out the internals.

Best of luck. ....

Thanks, I will check for restricted air flow, may try doing a compression test if I can figure out how to attach a gauge.
I'm working on several projects, so the kubota won't get done immediately. Getting a track loader fixed and clearing land for 300 apple trees is the most important project at the moment. ....
